Best HDD for plex media server?

spiralfuzion

I heard that a WD red sounds like a good drive to have running contentiously. What do you guys think?

If you're going for 24/7 uptime and reliability then yah, WD Reds are the way to go.

WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf. Just stay away from the 3TB drives from both brands. 3 seems to be the cursed number in harddrive storage.

you think running my os off of it while storing my plex data is a good idea?

The Seagate BarraCuda® Pro HDD

That's the best choice for this end of 2017 start of 2018 checkit out, I found only good reviews for a Desktop PC 24x7 and great performance for multimedia.

Hope helps!
