Then sure, go for G sync. I don't break 144 let alone 165Hz with my 1080 very often. Only with older games can I use g sync.

When I was shopping for a new monitor every decent IPS monitor had g sync standard, otherwise I wouldn't have cared for g sync.

I have the same gpu as you. I have only ever used a 1080p 60fps 24" monitor and Ive never seen anything other than 1080p so I am not sure what to expect and whether its worth. Is viewsonic a respectable brand?

The viewsonic model has a really nice panel and good color reproduction

Viewsonic makes one of the BEST tn panels for budget 144hz's as well

There is also another monitor for $250 cheaper that is a tn, still 1440p and 144hz 27". Is a ips g-sync worth an extra $250 I have never seen them and can't really have a look where I am.

I have no idea. Reading reviews are always hit and miss. Even with a 800 USD monitor, reviews would leave you to think it is a shitty product. I would say 1440p is a huge improvement over 1080p. With a gtx 1080 you should be playing in at least 1440p. I might even look at 4k monitors. I've seen a few 4k and 1440p in person and the difference isn't all that big to my eyes, but looking back, it would have been a better investment personally.

If I were you, I would prioritize my money to a quality panel rather than straight up refresh rates and features.

If I could, I wouldn't have paid for g sync.

Well is Gsync worth $250 to you?

If money is an issue then no Gsync isn't worth the preposterous premium pricetag of $250

If money isn't a issue then sure Gsync is a nice plus and so is a ips panel

IPS and TN is something you need to see in person. Even then, its not a good bet to judge. My monitor comes with absolute shit out of the box calibration. After I calibrated my predator monitor it looked 5 times better. If I would have seen it in person before I buying, then I would not have purchased it. (because shitty stock settings)

Generally, IPS is better for the whole viewing angles, especially when it is a big monitor, and the color reproduction has much better potential.

How much that is worth to you is all up to how much you want to pay. There's nothing really wrong with modern TN panels, but IPS does edge it out. $250 cheaper/better is up how much $250 is worth to you.

That comment makes no sense as g-sync is most effective from 40 FPS to like 90 FPS, which a 1440P ultra is the perfect res for a 1080 in most new games. Going above the the screens max resolution takes it out of the control range of gsync and thats when normal vsync is advised to be used - however, only older games will run over 144FPS anyway

Yes you are right about 40-90fps smoothing. My point was the stupid old games I play sometimes don't have a 'vsync' option. the 40-90fps isnt that a big deal to me. Most of the time, like in BF1, I am above 90 frames anyway.

Haha I know that feeling, I played Guild Wars 2 a little while ago and it was running over 200 FPS at max settings 1440P - Funnily I couldnt even get 130 FPS on World of Warcraft with 2x 970's
