Cheaper alternatives?

MValuableP

Hi everyone,

I am looking to build a PC in the very near future, and I would like to see if you've got anything I should have in mind when picking parts.

For a very long time I've been looking at parts, and I've come to a conclusion on the ones, I want. Though I'm curious to see what you guys could come up with as alternatives for my parts. Maybe I don't need certain things or there are way better competitors' products that I've missed in my process of picking them.

A little information about the use of the build:

I'm planning to get into streaming, YouTube and I also game a lot. Therefore, I picked these parts; https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZhmGtJ

I don't want to upgrade nor go SLI in the near future. Therefore, I need a STACKED computer, that I'll be able to use for a long time.

My budget is subject to change, as it's already crossed it's limit a few times (Ooops...), but this is probably where I cross the line.

That's also one of the reasons I'd like cheaper alternatives for my parts. Maybe I could save a few bucks here or there which might give me the possibility of buying a cheap Steam game or something. It's good to test the waters, right?

Anyway, go ahead and shoot me down with those alternate parts that maybe you have or know about and therefore think are great, I'm ready.

Thanks in advance,

Mikkel

Such as? I need things I can check out, please, so if you could mention some parts I could go for, that'd be great. Also, I'm from Denmark, so you've got to keep in mind things are more expensive here.

I'm interested to hear if you have a mobo or some RAM in mind, but case and SSD I have specific reasons for choosing, so I don't think I'll change those.

1. Not Samsung SSD, maybe some Crucial or Sandisk

2. Something doesn't look cool and less flashy like that RGB thing from Asus

3. I don't know something look generic

4. Keep the case

What's different about the motherboard?

I don't think ADATA products are available in Denmark.

Why change to a more expensive HDD (I only need 1TB).

Why change GPU?

What's that much better about SuperNOVA Gx PSU's?

Btw, not criticising choices, I'm just wondering why you chose those :D

Interesting options;

I don't need a 1080 for 1080p gaming really. That'd be overkill.

Does the RAM not matter that much?

Ahh, you're doing 1080p. Yeah go for a gtx 1070 and maybe use the extra money for a 144hz monitor.

Higher speed ram will have better fps, especially with minimum fps. Digitalfoundry has a few videos about this. The motherboard less less features and aesthetics is more bare but its enough for your build. Don't have to spend so much on the mobo.

Just used that one to keep on budget :P

Wait for ryzen, very possible to have an 8-core for a similar price as the 7700k.

I have a 144Hz monitor, but I'll save for another I think. Or maybe wait for one of those 240Hz ones.

Also, I'm not to keen on AMD, I think I'll use the release of Ryzen to see how much Intel prices will drop.

Here are some tips for buying a new system. There are a few components that you MUST NOT cheap out on.

Motherboard (I know from experience, got a z170-a edition and power delivery system is average, and it doesn't have wifi. But that doesn't matter to me, I'm not a heavy overclocker.)

PSU (I have a friend who got his whole system wrecked because PSU shorted the motherboard)

RAM (buy fast ram, anything up from 2666mhz is okay. Lower than that WILL bottleneck your CPU&GPU combo, I've watched quite a few vids covering this topic)

SSD (your drive stores everything. If an SSD dies, that's it. GONE. I've always bought only the best ranked SSDs.)

I always say this. Wait rather than buy some really GREAT components paired with some really BAD ones, because you clearly want the best, if a gtx 1070 and 7700k is your choice.

That's why my system cost almost 2 grand instead of 1.5. And we're talking euros. Europe. Where everything is 25% more expensive.

Just a friendly advice.

1. You dont need the K if you are not doing OC (in case you didnt know it).

2. For 1080p gaming you dont need a i7 unless you are doing some REALLY heavy multitasking (you can always bu the top notch i5, it will give you the best value/performance [if you want to keep the intel build, you can always go for rizen, but dont get in the hype train, don't expect anything, and you might be surprised. Apply this to everything in your life xD]).

3. As they said, cheaper mobo. Again, if you are not doing OC (which you dont NEED for 1080) dont buy a Z mobo. Carefull with the 3200MHz compatibility of the ram.

4. The RAM imo is just right, Id buy that one.

5. 1080p @60-> 1060; @144 -> 1070.

6. I dont know if it is available outside europe but the nox hummer cases are great and a little bit cheaper than that one.

7. DO NOT GO CHEAP ON YOUR PSU. Ever. I mean it. Buy a mid-high quality, seasonic if good, but dont buy that one. EVGA, corsair, coolermaster, they are good too.

8. Gl digging for components :D

I do want to overclock my system to boost that extra performance and also to test it out for future builds.

Responding to each of your points:

1. Already answered.

2. I will be doing heavy multitasking such as streaming while playing and maybe rendering video or doing photoshop stuff. A lot of things will happen on that PC.

3. I really like the ASUS motherboards, but yeah, have any suggestions?

4. Yeah I looked at RAM for a while :D

5. I have a 144Hz monitor and a 60Hz one, so 1070 is just right, yeah.

6. I chose this case for it's looks and also compatibility. It has some LED for my Green theme which a lot of others don't.

7. Yeah I'm split between a CX550M (Grey label) from Corsair I believe or the one in the PCPP link.

9. Thanks for the help :D

Oh man I could rant over this for days. In fact, I just got triggered, so bear with me. Here goes:

You know when Macbook pro 15 was released? And it's like 3000$ for.. decent spec. But here, in Europe it's like 3500-3700eur. Are you F*cking retarded? That's 4000$. It's legit 25% more expensive. My gtx 1070 Strix is 400$ in America. Here? 550eur. What the F*ck? When they say balls to the wall system for  2 grand in America, It's like at least 2500-2800 eur here, which is 33% MORE expensive than there. Rage Quit AFK. Honestly. Good thing EK originates from my country so I can at least watercool my PC without spendind immense cash for shipping.

That's the most basic model, probably not even 2 grand.. Between 1500-2000.

Yeah, I got it right!! Yeah, those are just laughable specs.. HD graphics? i5? 8gb of RAM? My 2 year old laptop that costed 1450eur and was considered high MIDDLE range at the time has i7-4710HQ (predecessor of 6700HQ), 16gb of ram, and a gtx 860m.

But I have to admit something. If I had the money, I'd probably buy maxed macbook pro 13 (withouth the touchbar). Battery life is insane and OS experience is really quick and snappy (and everything else just screams sexy, the keyboard is good as well). But it's 2300eur which must be the worst possible deal of the century period.

Yeah it's so bad.

Hell yeah, I feel you bro :C. I always wondered why all the people has so expensive GPUs (and other stuff aswell) and the answer is they are not that expensive :_D. To be honest is really unfair. Okay, I get It, you can give your fellow americans some exclusivity, but that's excessive :(

I have a 144Hz monitor, but I'll save for another I think. Or maybe wait for one of those 240Hz ones.

Also, I'm not to keen on AMD, I think I'll use the release of Ryzen to see how much Intel prices will drop.

If you have a 144hz monitor the gtx 1080 actually makes sense, the gtx 1070 can't max out everything at 144hz.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W
