Project Impossible

karolll95

Hello guys,

First of all I would like to introduce myself, because its my first post on this forum :) My name is Karol and I'm form Poland. I've been lurking this forum for a long time but never actually posted anything.

Now, as I'm prepering to my second custom LC project I thought that it's the right time ;)

If you're interested, here is a link to photos of my previous project. It was simple loop without anything special as it was my first attempt to water cooling. Yet Another Red Project

You possibly wonder why this project's name is Project Impossible. Well, as a person with pretty small experience with watercooling and, whats more, tight on budget due to studing I was dreaming about some high end show off build with awesome LC loop. However the desire to make this project was so enormous that I decided to try get a sponsor for some parts, which will allow me to start.

I didn't believe that this could work out well. I thought it was impossible... However...

I would like to thank very much aquatuning.de and especially Matthias for trusting me, you're awesome! :) So here I can announce that aquatuning agreed to sponsor all of watercooling parts for this build!

06e2ffc.png

Here is a list of hardware which will go into this build:

- i5 6600K

- Asus Maximus Ranger VIII

- 4x4GB DDR4 (don't know which one yet)

- GTX1070 FE

- Crucial MX100 256GB + ~500GB SSD (don't know which one yet)

- Corsair RM650 (might be changed for 650x)

- Phanteks Evolv ATX

And what all of us love the most, watercooling stuff :D !

- Alphacool Eisblock XPX

- Alphacool NexXxoS GPX m01 for GTX1070

- Alphacool D-RAM Cooler X4

- Alphacool VPP755

- Alphacool Eisdecke D5 plexi top

- Alphacool Eisbecher Lite 250mm

- 2x Alphacool NexXxos ST30 360mm

- Alphacool Eiszapfen fittings

- Phobya eLoop black 1000rpm

- Alphacool Eisrohr 16mm PMMA satin

Let me know focus on a case, because it needs to be modded.

Airflow in this case is pretty restricted so I decided to fix it :D

2ddcac27e1.png

c2378e31eb.png

I suppose that for some of you this pattern looks familiar and its no suprice! I took this pattern from Parvum cases, which are absolutely phenomenal but way out of a students budget :P

I hope that this will make airflow a lot better. I should actually get the pricing of this mod today so I hope it won't take long to do it.

To mount two 360 mm rads in this case I need to mount top radiator directly to the top of a case frame, without Phanteks slide bracket (which by the way is nice, but useless in this case scenario). To do that I will make my own bracket, which you'll see later :) This is another reason to improve airflow in a case, cause mounting rad this way would leave only 2 cm space between case top panel and radiator. This would definitelly affect temperatures.

I will also make new basement cover, possibly with led ROG logo. On a window side of this cover I'm planning to integrate aquaero 6.

Since I've first saw it I loved the look af frosted acrylic, so I decided to go with Alphacool sating tubing B|

Two days ago I recieve packages from Matthias! :D

And here is picture what I found inside :D

More pics coming, but I'm waiting for few items which will make photos much better :)

Update ;)

Firstly I want to share with You my choice of sleeving for this project.
IMO it's the best looking sleeving for a ROG motherboard :D
Teleios from E22. Main cables will have Fusion Red/Black and Carbon sleeve. All the rest will be black.

Panels are ready but there are few scratches and they need to be re-paint. I will re-paint all four outside panels.

This case is very beautiful indeed but airflow is an issue. When I would put rad on top directly under case frame there would be only about 2cm gap to the top of the case. And only vents are those at both sides of top panel. They obviously don't keep up with realising this whole amount of air. Similar story is when You'd look at front.

My mods are a bit radical I admit :D but why not? I really like how it came out. And hope You guys would like it too. When panels arrive I will post pics immediately! B|

Evolv's panels will be back from painting this week. Case mods also should be done during that time so I will finally get to work :D

Today I took apart Eisblock to change it's logo. Blue definetely isn't a color for this build but I don't want overdose with red so the best choice is white.

Huge update guys :D

As You can see at renders I'm going to use different reservoir. It's related to the fact that Alphacool's res doesn't have functionality to connect IN at top of it. I have a new Aqualis 440ml lying around and I like it very much, so it's a perfect choice :)

DSC02365.jpg

DSC02366.jpg

Using Aqualis base requires different pump top, so here we go.

DSC02372.jpg

DSC02373.jpg

Combo looks delicious, glass tube is fantastic ^_^ What's interesting it's incredibly heavy, even without fluid :D

Pump is missing. Reason? VPP755 doesn't  fit Aqualis. I will go with normal D5.

DSC02388.jpg

Some time ago I swapped my 2x4GB G.Skill RipjawsV for 4x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 3000Mhz Cl15. They look nice but I'm going to watercool them so whatever :D

Case time B|

According to my assumptions there was made new basement cover with slot for Aquaero 6. Originally I wanted to make it from acrylic but it ended up on alu. ROG logo is made from acrylic in a 'box" which is pushed into basement cover. To make it fit above PSU I had to raise it as high as it can go.

During planning this cover I had an idea to make a second cover. Nothing special, just a piece of aluminium to cover an area between MOBO and front of the case. But to make my life more difficult I made a wholes for each cable separatly for 24PIN ATX and 8PIN VGA. The other two holes are for SATA and USB3.0.

DSC02411.jpg

DSC02416.jpg

Finally I collected Evolv's panels from powdering. It took ages but hopefully is propely done.

RAM finally got its waterblock. IMO it looks awesome, but I have to admit disassembling Ripjaws4 orginal heatsinks gave me few heart attacks O.o
I have also made my first acrylic tube connection. Hardest of them all :P

I screwed up that I didn't wait with powder coating till I have all elements. Covers had to paited old-school way but I wasn't proud of how it turned out.
However, as Asus logo box is covered with foil I decided to do the same with covers.
Pics also show that Evolv's is really small case when You start to mess around with it :)
