2x Xeon 5080 vs i7 4770K (For rendering)

Hello,

I have two computers at home, and one of my friends asked if they could buy one of them off me.

I wanted to keep one for myself as well to use as a VPN and for rendering Premiere Pro files..

Here's the Specs of the PC's I have:

PC 1 (Server) HP ProLiant DL380 G5:

I got this one cheap off eBay, upgraded the RAM and CPU's, and HDD's.

CPU: 2x Xeon 5080 Dual Core @ 3,7GHz

RAM: HP Server Memory 16GB

GPU: None

HDD: 4x 146GB SAS Drives in RAID 10

PSU: 2x 1000W

LAN: 2x 1GB, 1x 4GB Fibre

Notes: Has 1x PCIe 16x Slot, but no PCIe power Cables, 1x PCIe 8x, 2x PCIe 4x

PC 2 (Small Desktop):

Mainboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87

CPU: i7 4770K @ 3,5-4GHz

RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 32GB

GPU: GTX 780

HDD: 1TB HD + 128GB SSD

PSU: 600W Superflower

LAN: 1x 1GB, (+ I could take the PCIe fibre card from the server)

While I like the Server features that come with the DL380 (ILO, more RAM, HDD's possible), I also like the other PC, because I can overclock it a lot more, and I think it's more efficient.

EDIT: Also, my friend would use it for gaming and light rendering Work as well. He's got a secluded room which could be used for the Server

So what do you guys think? Which one's better?

The 4770k beats the pants out of the dual xeon machine for everything but redundancy.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

The second one will be far superior.

You've got 2x 2cores on the intel Xeon. Yes they do have hyperthreading but you're running 2 cpus to get 8 threads.
Also the 5080 is like 6 years old.

4770k wins easily here.

Well that's for you to decide.  I mean the dual xeon machine probably won't game for crap and will likely consume twice the watt hours of the consumer machine while being less than 75% the speed.  The xeon machine doesn't even use DMI.  It sill uses front side bus.
Pretty much I think the only one you could sell your friend is the consumer machine in my opinion since they want to game, but then that leaves you with the enterprise dinosaur that you really wouldn't want to use yourself either since it sounds like you want to run 24/7.

9 years old and both CPUs have 2 cores with no hyperthreading.

EDIT: Ohh wait, I thought they were Woodcrest CPUs, ignore me lol

they actually do have HT, though you are correct about 9 years old.

I know they have hyperthreading which why I edited my post :P

EDIT: Ohh wow just looking into Dempsey, basically a pair of Pentium 4 HT dies on a single package lol
