A 6 year old laptop is my current oldest, it's a backup for me, it's so slow I put Ubuntu on it to make it useable.

My college mostly uses some dell OEM pcs with E7500s while Cad and programming labs have i5 2500

Though Hostilities are allowed to have their own PCs (and use them for college projects)

everyone is allowed to carry a laptop (I surprised everyone with my MSI stealth )

I'm just guessing but I assume that computer is very very old.  How can it possibly run Windows 7?  ?

It's pretty slow when that IDE drive is thrashing away. But once it all calms down, it's decent for word processing and checking emails. It can even handle Windows Aero. Crazy huh. The only reason why I had to install 7 was because it couldn't install any drivers under Windows XP anymore. So things like USB mice just plain didn't work.

So for this to run Windows 7 at all is impressive.

I miss XP.  Things just worked on it most of the time.  It was nice.  Now I've got at lesst one old game that doesn't work on 7 or 10 that I can't play because I don't have XP running properly anymore.    I got a copy installed in a VM on my secondary desktop but for some reason the game doesn't run properly on it.  I haven't gotten around to trying to figure out why.

OIdest computer I use on the regular is my HTPC. i5 2500K, 8GB RAM, GT 720 (will receive the main rig's 1060 when I get a 1080/1080Ti), 250GB 840 Evo SSD. Oldest functioning computer I have is an IBM PC XT 5160 with CGA video + monitor. Both the computer and monitor are in their boxes (the original boxes) right now as I have nowhere to set them up. Actually thinking of getting rid of it, just haven't decided how.

I only got rid of it (Sold it) as someone offered me £100 for it and I didn't have room to keep a CRT of that size around anymore. I only have LCD Monitors now (Except in my Macintosh Plus as thats an iconic one).

I decided to bring project Dell T700r back to life and now im installing Windows 98 SE to get it to be my vintage gaming PC.

Ah.  That makes it better to sell then.

Can you connect these old computers to newer monitors?

Awesome.  If possible could you let me know how that goes?

I tried installing a copy of XP I got on eBay (included a license code so it's legit so far as ok know) but for some reason when I tried installing it on my secondary desktop in a VM the game I wanted to play would launch but it wouldn't work correctly...

As long as you have the correct adaptors and converters yes you can, I've run my Apple IIe on a LCD TV, Doesn't look as nice as it would on a CRT but still it works.

Just got to get the drivers installed and should be good to go :)

Are the drivers on a separate disk that you use after installing Windows?

How do you have a copy of Windows 98 with a license code?

It's just a little surprising to me that you'd have such an old OS lying around.

Well i got to download them and burn them to a disk. eBay, as a collector I've also collected the OS disks but I keep them all in storage and have made copies of the disk so I only use the original disks once.

Nice.  My first 3 computers were laptops that had OEM Windows licenses and I think only came with repair disks for Windows not full copies that can be used with any license code to do an install.

My main desktop was originally a prebuilt so it's got an OEM copy too I think and my secondary desktop is using W10 Education version so it's not a retail copy either.

Thankfully though my main desktop came with a Windows 10 DVD that has a full copy of W10 on it so I can use it for fresh installs if/when I'd need to do so.

I do have a sealed retail copy of W10 Home that I got on eBay for like $70-80 USD last fall but I'm saving that for a future build to be decided on later.

What specific drivers did you need to install that weren't already included in the Windows install?

Lucky!  I wish I had XP codes and stuff sitting around to use.    Though what would be great too would be 7.  I'd love to have a modern computer to use 7 on instead of my clunky 2010 laptop.

Definitely not the oldest, but I have an old Dell Dimensions rocking a P4 and 1.5 GB of ram. Theres an Nvidia card in there but I have no clue what its called.

I also have an old laptop that has some single core Athlon- an Acer one- that I repurposed into a linux based gaming box running Batocera.

Old PCs facinate me, tbh.
