Power a 2 8pin GPU without any 8 pin connector

eric95204

I just got a 280x that requires dual 8 pins, however my antec 500w ea-500 only has dual 6 pin. Should I try to do dual molex to 8pin connectors or dual 6 pins to a single 8 pin. Are they good options or should I just get a new power supply, money is an issue

You're asking to have your card fried trying that most likely, or have your PSU die more likely since it wouldn't be able to supply the required power at times potentially

where did you get the 280x and for how much?

Seasonic S12II 620W is $49.99 atm has 2 8 pin connectors

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Nice.

Then ya probably pick that thing up if possible while it's on sale and you should be good to go

hopefully the card wasn't worked to death doing GPU mining

you're literally gonna cause a housefire

the 2x6pins are on a seperate rail probably and you're running your CPU and GPU on the same rail

the GPU will be taking up to 375w from a 500w PSU.

idk

I'd buy that Seasonic PSU @Streetguru recommended and sell your old PSU or find another use for it. There's no getting around the fact that you'll need a better power supply.

It uses that much power!? I can't see a 280X pulling that much, maybe a 290X OC

That's an F in the profile pic
