CPU COOLER

CHEESYnachoMAN4
Go to solution Solved by GreenToxon,

If you aren't overclocking, you would be wasting money purchasing a bigger aftermarket cooler for performance

Now, if you do plan to upgrade your MoBo later you should save that money that you would be spending on the cooler for either a better MoBo or whenever the cooler you like goes on a crazy good sale.

If you don't like how it looks, that's also another reason for getting a cooler and you should get that CM V8 GTS.

Should I get a CPU cooler if Im not overclocking, or should I just keep the stock cooler? I might upgrade my motherboard later on and get one that supports overclocking but as of now I cant overclock.

The cooler that I wanted to get is: Cooler Master V8 GTS it is a bit overkill but i'd rather get a really good cooler rather than a "ok/good" one.

if you want a good cheap cooler get a GAMMAXX 400, it's an amazing cooler - silent, keeps temps low.

to answer your question - yes. it keeps temps down, it's quieter, etc.

idk

Why get a new motherboard?

He plans to overclock, which isn't supported on his B150 chipset board.

It looks to be a pretty solid board from ASUS. All of the updated features and even some RGB lighting (if that's your thing).

Which CPU do you have?

Oh yeah then you should be good for OC'ing with a new cooler.

If OC'ing is worth it or not however, that's up to you. You may notice a slight increase in performance but it won't be a night/day difference especially for everyday things. You're running on pretty much the latest hardware so your CPU isn't bottlenecking any games. If you render videos or run CPU intensive workloads it would be more worth it.

I mostly game on it

In that case, you won't see much (if any) improvement for gaming if you OC. You can still do it if you want to try it, or get into that kind of stuff (which some people love) but just know that.

Might hold off on the new motherboard then. I'll probably use the money to upgrade the ram or GPU

Yeah, that would be a better choice for a better gaming experience. 16GB of RAM should be more than enough (I don't know how much you have, but I recently upgraded from 8GB to 16GB and I don't have to close all my tabs to game)

Video cards, and something that most people don't consider would be a nice Freesync/G-Sync IPS monitor (if you don't have one already).

In a few years you might be able to snag a Z170 board on the cheap and OC then (when you need whatever performance you can get). I'm still on a 2700K and it's chugging along just fine.
