Upgrade for a Celeron E3300

My Dad has an old PC with an Intel Celeron E3300 in it. He can not afford a new PC but wants me to put a new processor in it but i don't know what is compatible with that socket. The replacement should be around 3Ghz. Any suggestions are welcome

Something like a Q6600 would be a good and cheap choice.

I actually have no idea. On hardware monitor is says the Motherboard is a Veriton M275 and under that there is something called ITE IT8721F if that helps.

I agree with RKRiley, a Q6600 would be a fantastic upgrade and you'll notice a huge difference.

I'll have a look at that. Is there anything closer to 3Ghz or should i just settle for that?

You can overclock the Q6600.

Do you have a link to where i can get it as on Ebay and Amazon they only sell used ones and i would rather get a brand new one.

You wont be getting one brand new, they're 10 year old cpu's.

I'd be amazed if you can find any socket 775 cpu new, and even then, it wouldn't have warranty from Intel anymore.

Turns out my MoBo is not compatible with a quad core as when i turned it on it made a constant beep and when i did some research i found out i need a dual core CPU.

Look for a second hand LGA 775 motherboard that supports quad cores.

I am going to get a dual core cpu which has a clock peed of 3.2ghz. I can't remember what it is at the moment.
