So Ryzen is probably just right around the corner, the full lineup pricing has been leaked :)

4 cores 4 threads 3.8ghz+ for 149$...this should appeal to gamers i think :)

If these prices are true, then we can consider Ryzen to be a fair bit below any Intel offering performance-wise. Ryzen probably has the best perf/$ but Intel will definitely have a decent performance lead according to these prices. AMD won't price them lower than they have to, so AMD pricing their top dog at half of what Intel's equivalent is... That's an indicator of it not being able to trade blows with it.

Best case scenario benchmarks that are unverified by anyone but the salesman. 

If those benchmarks are indicators of the actual performance then these prices are wrong. They have no reason to discount them this heavily. Bulldozer was more expensive than this at launch if I recall correctly and that one sucked, so... Well... Obviously AMD is being a bit more realistic this time around but either the benchmarks are wrong or the prices are.

I would say compared to the 5820K/6800K. Because if you are even thinking about purchasing an 8 core CPU, gaming probably isn't your number one priority...

this kind of thinking holds the pc gaming industry back, we have vulkan now that utilizes more cores. the days of 4 cores are coming to an end. :P

I know. Games like Watch_dogs 2 and Battlefield 1 are using more than 4C/8T and are able to fully utilise 12 Threads! But the reality of it is that right now, having more than 8 threads, doesn't really benefit you in most games.
