I have been contemplating switching to the SX500-LG but my SX600-G isn't too bad. It has the chariot noise but it's very quiet and that's while in an open test bench right next to me. I'd say it's as loud as expected operational noise would be, certainly not upsettingly loud.

I have no concrete to buy a SX500-LG, but rather just wanted to have the opportunity to do so in the future.

I am happy with my modded ST45SF (80 Plus bronze version) for now

Jelly! The display is still the hardest decision for me to make, I think i'm going to get a Swift though and pair it with 2x Acer IPS panels on either side. 1 screen gaming, but surround desktop.

For gaming something like a Swift might be the better choice.

Switching from a 24" 1920x1200 monitor to this was like switching from a non-"retina" iPhone to a "retina" one.

 

I am currently running the Dell as a "2560x1440"-esqe screen in OS X (i.e. 5K content displayed on a 4K monitor).

Everything is sharp and there is enough screen estate to work with.

 

The coating is much nicer than with older Dell IPS screens.

I had a 2x Dell U2412M's im assuming you're talking about a similar screen?

 

I'm contemplating pulling the panels out of their surrounds and making a custom one, will be one hell of a job but haven't seen it done before so should look the goods.

 

I'll get a 4k in future, just right now it doesn't fall into something that suits me well. I have A LOT of projects to get through in the next year or 2.

I had a HP ZR24w and a Dell U2312HM (which I gave to my parents)

I always wanted to buy a second 24" screen (for 2 or 3 years), because I always liked dual screen setups ...

But now, with single stream 4K IPS displays arriving for "little" money, I couldn't justify buying another "non-retina" screen.

 

Another option would have been to go with two of dells new 25" 2560x1440 screens.

I also looked into a 21:9 34" screens, but those are about 30% more expensive than the Dell I bought and only really offer about 30% more (lower resolution) screen estate.

The P2715Q imho really is good bank for the buck ...

i've been really flip flopping around my monitor choice for NCASE, i also was keen on a 34" Ultrawide but then thought nah... 4k never really came into it but you make a good arguement. I think im still set on a swift for now... who knows...

... too bad I couldn't find the adapter to remove the heatsink screws

Some black modular cables would be really nice. also the cable mess in the front with the 3x 2.5" drives is far from perfect.

Hey man, awesome build

I notice how the CPU fan is connected to the front bracket of the M1.

Is this just a nice coincidende? Or is it not completely connected to the CPU heatsink? I just ordered an M1 and i'm still looking for a good cooling solution for my 4790k.

that picture is from when I still used the Corsair H60.

The fan is connected to the side bracket and to the h60 rad on the other side.

you can see in this picture:

 

I am now using a CoolerMaster air cooler with the fan directly mounted on the heatsink. So there is some space between the side panel and the cpu fan.

 

 

edit:

the optimal cooling solution in the M1 largely depends on what motherboard you are using.

What would you recommend for me?

Mobo: MSI Z97i AC

Cooler: Corsair H75 or Cryorig C1

I use low profile RAM so clearance is not an issue.

I cannot use a dual 120mm AIO as I have two 3,5" to get in there as well.

 

I honestly have no idea if the C1 fits on the moterboard and/or in the M1

• new mid to high end mITX board

• GTX 1070 (or 1080 - waiting on first reviews)

im hearing ya, 980 wasnt enough to game on my 3440x1440.

 

Good chance Ill be going 1080 as well, though, I want to know more about that Founders Edition card...
