Take back my 4k for a 1440p ultrawide?

ActuallyGoose

First off. God damn I'm indecisive..

Anyway, So 13 days ago I bought a 4k monitor (this one ) http://www.samsung.com/uk/business/business-products/business-monitor/performance/LU28E85KRS/EN

And I love it, It's exactly what i wanted. But I'm not sure if i'm missing out on ultrawide, I know in my last post about what 4k monitor to get, people recommended i get a 1440p ultrawide, and i disregarded the idea. But since I've moved my previous 2 1080's, i have room for an Ultrawide, and was wondering if people that have experienced both 4k and 1440p ultrawide could shed some light on what they think is better, especially for my case

So i should probably also explain what i use my PC for. long story short I play games, do some editing (On Photoshop, After Effects etc.) And also plan on seriously getting into streaming and YouTube when i move soon. So, would an ultrawide benefit me more? Or should I stick with the monitor I chose.

Thanks for the help anyone, and yes, I know. I need to see someone about my indecisiveness -_-

Why not get one of the 3840×1600 monitors? Then you're basically at the perfect in between.

This comes out soon, and the price isn't nearly as bad as the LG one. It also has a 75hz refresh rate.

You know exactly what he means - don't be a smartass.

How is calling 2560×1440  "1440p" more correct than calling 3440 x 1440  "1440p Ultrawide"?

what!?

because there are fucking standards and 1440p means 2560*1440

the "p" in 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 2160p is universal language for 16:9 aspect ratio

the correct term for 3440*1440 is WQHDWide Quad High Definition

you know.. if you have a 4k monitor and you feel like you're missing out on ultrawide, play games with black bars top and bottom.

there's nothing about an ultrawide to "miss out" on if you already have more pixels.

(and if anyone's gonna say size, move your display closer to your snout, congrats, bigger screen.)

He specifically stated ultrawide after that. If your reading comprehension is that poor, I'd suggest you work on it.

Don't be a cock. There are other places you can go to pick stupid arguments with people.

Ahhh I forget how cheap 4k monitors are now. What do you think you're missing out on? It's just a wider screen, as @manikyath said. I think you'd be sacrificing more going with an ultrawide that'd be within your budget.

Yeah, I get what you mean.. I just recently watched HardwareCanucks video on ultrawide 21:9 vs UHD 4K, and just thought that the ultrawide would be better for both gaming and editing. Although since I know nothing about either really, I just wanted to see what more experienced people would say

Nonsense.

The P is actually progressive scan, you used to have interlace (I) and (p) progressive scan

ultra wide resolutions are 21:9 aspect ratio

then explain me why i can set my wii to 480p 4:3

EDIT: may be 480i, i'm not quite sure anymore.. either way, same difference.

They weren't always 16:9, also 16:9 widescreen came about much before 720i/p (HD ready) or 1080i/p (full hd) did

Don't spout nonsense when you don't clearly don't know what you are talking about.

I've been heavily into AV/Home theatre for 20 years, ive seen all these standards come and go, same as Dolby Surround, Dolby Pro Logic (1 + 2), Dolby Digital, 5.1, 7.1, Atmos, DTS etc. Damn I even remember Nicam Stereo!!

yes, but the p and i have nothing to do with aspect ratio, they refer to progressive or interlaced, not to whatever the width may be.

you can have a 1080p 4:3, 16:9, 69:420, or whatever the crap microsoft can think of putting on their surfaces next time :D

@zMeul and to add, those Ultrawide monitors will still be progressive scan, even though they're 21:9

exactly.

to be honest, we should really go with a format like "1920x1080p60" to get rid of all this garbage..

horizontal resolution, vertical resolution, progressive or interlaced, and frequency. boom, no more guessing.

Id probably stick with the 4k if it was me, 2x 1080s are enough grunt and the only reason to have 1440P is high refresh with reasonable GPU requirements.
