737 Cockpit [Build] [FSX]

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

So, I play quite a bit of Microsoft flight simulator and I have finallly decided to build my flight sim, this will  be a full build on the project. I will be making an "essentials" overhead panel for the FSX PMDG NGX 737, 737 Throttle quadrants (unfortunately not motorized yet) and I will have another essentials panel under the monitors. All the button inputs will be connected to an Arduino MEGA  and 2 Arduino Unos for the connection to the flight sim using link2fs. The overhead will feature all buttons but the air packs, spoiler, flight control, the dials and will have only 4 rotary switches. I will also introduce 1 16x2 LCD panels for the battery monitor. The Essntials panel under the montior will have most "useful" autopilot functions, landing gear, LCD's for autopilot, Communications, EIFS etc. I currently have 2 24inch screens (will be used for main ext display, I will buy 1 extra for three monitor) 1 17 inch used for instruments and 1 4.3 inch screen for instruments and console for controls I will be using a PRO flight Saitek yoke and some home made rudders I will make. I have ordered over 70 switches over 100 leds for the Light arrays and a ton of other crap like rotary switches, toggle switch caps etc. Current Money spent so far 60€

Sounds much better than my single 1080p 24 inch, Saitek yoke, Saitek throttle thing that came with the yoke and saitek rudder setup...

To be fair, that set up costed me like 50 pounds where someone was trying to get rid of em for cheep (a couple of years ago) :P

So last Friday I recieved the Yoke and Throttle in the mail, Only paid 90$ for them! They work perfectly and give a pretty realistic feel though I might mod the yaw axis with rubber bands. The throttle quadrant is a bit on the loose side when using the 737 attachments as they are heavy but mounting the quadrant at 45º should fix it. I have also ordered extra Toggle switches and started training / practicing my ATC skills. Also Managed to complete a 737 startup/ takeoff with checklists in less that 30m. the quadrant is missing a paintjob as you can tell, I also welded up a clamp so the overhead panel can clamp to my desk from behind and be removed for maintenance.

haha, I have to admit this is dream coming to life for me!

Update!: I have  impatiently wired up half of the switches to the arduino and started programming so they can link to simconnect using link2fs. I currently have around 5 switches programmed and more are being programmed right now. I will be done in a couple hours and then I will need to wait for the other switches and arduinos to arrive this week. I also will start construction of the MCP when the LCD 16*4 arrives, I also temporarily mounted the overhead to the

Update!. Sorry for the alck of updates I have been very busy but a lot of stuff has happend, all the parts have arrived and I have 25 swithces programmed and working, The LCD's have arrived and I am currently prgramming the second one. I also want to add that I will not  be using the rotary switches fro the DC input as link2fs has a limit of 50 switches (originally only 25 but I got 50 working) and they will take too many inputs. I will also be using mobiflight for all the remaining inputs. I am currently finishing wiring the switches, writing the lcd code and will shprtly start making the mcp
