RyZen will get official Windows 7 support

AMD , unlike Intel w/ kabylake , is officially supporting windows 7 and will release drivers for it

But doesn't the Ryzen family include APUs as well?

well yes , in that case the gpu of that apu will do the encoding , not the cpu itself , ie ryzen cores wont do that , polaris/vega handles that

Not initially. First, AMD will just push Ryzen CPUs, with APUs to follow at a later date, presumably because they're going to be packing Vega based graphics (probably cut back to between RX460 and RX470 levels of performance at the high end).

I've already been told it's going to be the other way around, with APUs coming first. FFS @chaozbandit

There are already APUs on the AM4 platform, but those are still based on Bulldozer (the latest iteration of Carrizo). Ryzen based APUs are set to come after. If it is due to Vega, I'd believe it was for power efficiency, not jaw dropping performance rivalling high end dGPUs.

I loved it while there was no viable alternative, but TBH after trying windows 10 for a few months back when it launched and experiencing very few problems, I just switched all my machines over to 10. Even changed my "tech support" PCs over too, like family/friends etc as that way it was and is easier to support if they experince problems and I can talk them through a fix usually.... The few people that wanted to remain on 7 have now no tech support from me I'm afraid, after months of me trying to get them to change I just said screw it. It takes me much longer to talk someone through something I can't see myself as my memory is not what it was due to my disability. And I didn't really want to leave one of my machines on win 7 or even dual boot... I could have done a VM I suppose, but sometimes stuff is just harder to do on VM when it comes to troubleshooting. Anyway, after a while they decided to upgrade and said that they actually prefer win 10 too after a while, some people just don't like change even if it will benefit them unfortunately.

I don't mean you guys by that... I'm assuming you guys have more valid reasons for not upgrading like driver support/gaming etc, not like my sister who just didn't want her desktop to change... I set the bloody things up for people anyway and install all their crap usually, so it was literally she wanted everything to look the same and be in the same place as win 7... she is 58 FFS and only uses the PC for web browsing and the occassional app. I just did it anyway one time while she was at work and I was at her place, took her 3 weeks to notice, lol

This honestly bumps them up in my radar quite a bit. Yes you can go ahead and list all of the advantages of Windows 10 I've read them all before, still nothing I'd sacrifice over a stable 7 install.

Would be interesting to see what happens to the Enterprise PC market now since many businesses and institutions are still hanging onto Windows 7. Seems fairly unlikely Dell would make the switch to AMD for their OptiPlex machines

Likely either a rumor when it became known that Kaby Lake would only be supported on Windows 10 (not required Win10 to run, but the experience on other operating systems isn't exactly smooth), or AMD confirmed it early on just to change their minds, likely to win over more potential customers.
