Edimax speeds super slow...

QuantumBit

So I just got the Edimax 7811UN and I plugged it in. At first it started super slow, then it went up to 30 Mb/s for a while, and now its back to 2 Mb/s. I have it plugged in to the USB 3.0 slot on the motherboard IO, any idea whats happening?

Update: Steam is downloading a game at 3 MB/s but the internet speed is .5 Mb/s

UPDATE AGAIN: Now the speeds are at 15 Mb/s???

How far away from the router are you, and is the pc case between it and your router? These are somewhat short ranged.

It's outside of the case, and I just plugged it into the red USB "lan" port, seems to be back to 30 Mb/s now...

Also I would say around 6 feet away?

Okay so you're close enough...why not just run an Ethernet cable to make sure it's the wifi and not some network setting?

ah...well then it maybe buggy firmware or some such on the wifi? I've got a couple of these and they work okay...albeit at shortish range and a direct line to the router.

Oh it might be because I have a wall in between.

Isn't there something you  plug into a wall and it gives you a ethernet port? Because I might get that..
