I got one recently, very good thermals, top notch performance but the fans can be noisy and some units suffer from backlight bleed.

Figured out MSHybrid mode helps alleviate some of the noise, still a bit noisy but bearable, the fan curve in discrete mode is ludicrously aggressive we are talking about something like 50-70% at 40c.

Who did you buy it from?  I'd ask them if there is a bios update inbound for custom fan curves.

That's one of the more alright options.  Pricing isn't always good and Acer has struggled with cpu cooling.

Asked them about the light bleed and the fan, the light bleed was so bad they said they will try to fix it and update the BIOS along with it.

Even considering the slight exaggeration my camera does with the purple bleed, the yellow bleed is pretty bad. I'm considering whether to return it now and see if I can get an Asus GL502 or wait till the end of the summer when I get back to the UK to see if I can send it to them for a fix after the summer break.

Seems clevo still doesn't know how to stop light bleed.

Maybe you can open the bezel a little?  My P650 can do that and it lightens the pressure on the display.

I might try that, though I'm still think of whether I should return it for a GL502 or deal with it now and fix it after the summer. The lack of fan control might drive me mad.

It's your call.  I would never do it personally but the GL502 is a little thinner and quieter with a 1060 (not 1070).

I would prefer to service it over switching to Asus.

Problem is the fan issue seems to be worrying since some reviewers reported the fans ramping up at idle for no reason. And my battery seems to be acting up as well, for some reason I can't get more than 2 hours of video/browsing even with MShybrid, power saving on and on low brightness.

@Galm @Pendragon So the P950HP6 is definitely better than the Asus ROG GL502VM right ? In terms of cooling and all that jazz?

Maybe it's just initial bios growing pains. Clevo traditionally has a terrible record of the first gen bios and firmwares. eg. the P650xx series couldn't connect to HDMI (or was it eDP) in the first few months LOL. We won't know until they smooth out the kinks.

For now the GL502VM is fine. "Fine". A 1060 works fine in that chassis, but it has no advantages. It used to have a non GSync screen on the GL502VT i think and that got like 6-7 hour battery life and was highly recommended, but now no.

Yeah the GL502VM is "alright".  The GL502VS is not acceptable.  A 1070 laptop that's way too hot and lacking features.

The P950 however is kinda new.  We don't know all that much about it.  I'm not sure yet how the chassis quality compares.  But Clevo usually makes nice stuff in its P series.

@Galm @Pendragon Should I risk it and buy the P950 or just play it safe with the GL502VM . Because I trust Clevo's cooling more than Asus and I would rather buy a longer lasting machine

It's hard to make that call I don't know for sure how good the new Clevos cooling is yet.
