mITX Video Editing/Gaming Build for $1,400

Exprima

I have a friend who wants me to build him a PC. He's mostly gonna be doing video edits and playing games at 1080p on it. This is what I've put together for him so far. Thoughts?

This is the only one with a PLS panel. The rest are TN or look too "gamery."

With the case that you chose you will need to mount the power supply face up to work in conjunction with the GPU fans to create a more negative air pressure zone for fresh air to flow in.

You should try to find another case where the GPU is not mounted so closely to the side of a case. Something like the Thermaltake cores (I think that's the series) where the GPU pulls in air from the outside will help a lot.

The Evolv ITX has a dust filter at the bottom I can mount the PSU face down.

My concern isn't the PSU, it's the GPU overheating from having a lack of airflow around it. With this case, except for the vent at the back the GPU is up against the power supply basement with about 5mm of clearance between them. This makes it difficult for the GPU to pull in air to cool itself with. Mounting the PSU with the fan facing up can help with this issue but it still will not make a huge difference.

Ohh I see. He really likes the aesthetics of the GPU but yeah I'll see what else he might like.

The GPU is fine, but a case where the motherboard sits horizontally on the bottom and the GPU is mounted vertically allows the GPU to pull in fresh air from outside and makes this issue nonexistent.

Here are 5 possible cases that are in the same approximate price range (or cheaper).

Thermaltake Suppressor F1

Fractal Design Node 304

BitFenix Prodigy (comes in several different colors)

Silverstone SG08B-LITE

Fractal Design Core 500

Some of these cases would need a smaller cooler since if I remember correctly the SR Slim is quite tall, however something like a Cryorig C7 would do a perfectly acceptable job of cooling a locked i7.

I would still encourage you to take a look for yourself but these are some starting points.

Intel Xeon 1650 V0 (4.4GHz @1.4V), ASRock X79 Extreme6, 32GB of HyperX 1866, Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT, Silverstone Redline (black) RL05BB-W, Crucial MX500 500GB SSD, TeamGroup GX2 512GB SSD, WD AV-25 1TB 2.5" HDD with generic Chinese 120GB SSD as cache, x2 Seagate 2TB SSHD(RAID 0) with generic Chinese 240GB SSD as cache, SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 850, x2 Acer H236HL, Acer V277U be quiet!
