If I were the optimistic sort, one reason could be that the textures are only superficially compressed so cpu/gpu resources used to decompress them are minimized.  However seeing the textures that SSE came out with, it'd require a greater leap of faith that I'd just assume not take.

It's not odd at all. Most games dont run 4k textures even at 4k resolution.

I can't believe it.  Bethesda is releasing Star Citizen, because this game'll be damn near or over 100gb's with a fucking texture update.

This means Fallout 4 will be a 70gb or 80gb game.. Makes me wonder what games will look like in a few years. Like Elder Scrolls 6.  I am excited for this, I just s tarted playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas again.

First people complain that there aren't any amazing texture games requiring crazy rigs to run back like crysis did. Game releases update to do so, people complain. What is it with you all. Decide what you want.

How long have you been here? This is the PC gaming community! The shade of anonymity allows us to complain about EVERYTHING! People complained when the most densely populated city in FO4 hit any PC to its knees.

You don't need a high resolution monitor to see improvement from higher texture resolution.

As it is, with Skyrim for example, I need to run the unofficial patch for the HD textures, then the optimised HD textures-which look far better and fit within 2GB of vRAM while not having Skyrim CTD as much.

Don't care what you haters think, I liked FO4. Sure story was pretty weak and the RPG elements were dumbed down to high heaven but I enjoyed exploring the world and seeking out side missions to complete.

 

As for the texture pack? Fuck yeah, time to start a fresh game and watch my 1070 start to cry plus Piper in real 4K should be well worth it.
