For a 60hz monitor is a GTX 1070 a bit overkill?

Doing a mini research & noticed this interesting thing, on a Full HD monitor, almost all games for most of the video reviews so far i've seen showed the 1070 running well above 60fps on high to max settings on current AAA games for the most parts , well above the monitors limited refresh rates, meanwhile the 1060 hovered only a bit over the 60fps limit ,  but dipping near 40-45 at it lowest on the same settings but very briefly , now for a budget conscious person , those extra fps is literally  wasted if he buys a 1070, right?  , but it does give headroom, but still , without changing up the monitor to meet the needs do you think which would be the most appropriate buy , please state your reasons & your opinion & why on your comment down below

It depends on the games you want to play, and the settings you want to play them at. But, taking the most demanding games into account, it's not overkill.

Depends. I'm fine with 60hz, and it's not like the GPU being capable of delivering more than 60fps is a bad thing. I'd rather have a bit of buffer above than have to suffer input lag spikes when it drops below.

I don't think Tera, GTA IV, and ARK count though. That's just poor optimization.

I guess some of those games needs a 1070 for them to be maxed so not overkill I guess...

Yes and no. Really depends purely on a game.

 

If its one tier decision and still within your budget then always get better card. Card will stay while you can upgrade the rest. 

 

I only consider 1070 overkill for 60Hz e-sport games (CSGO, Overwatch, Dota, LoL etc.).

 

When it comes to "max" settings I imagine that means 16x MSAA which can be very difficult to handle. 

 

I have to compromise a lot with my 1060 because I pkay on 144Hz screen. Compromising is part of life if you cant afford the best of the best

Depends on the game you want to play, if you look at games like OverWatch, ofc. its overkill.

1070 also let you play on max settings, longer in to the future, than a less powerfull one would.
