Worth getting cheaper GTX 1080?

WFMG

Hello!

I've found a new GTX 1080 for 5990 SEK. This is a good price for a 1080, as they're usually about 7500 SEK. However, I already have an R9 390, and this is still a lot of money. I have a 4K monitor as my primary monitor.

Is it worth getting it?

If you want to run 4K 60 more reliably and at higher settings then of course. The R9 390 is more of a 1080p card.

What games do you play? Are you satisfied with your current R9 390 or not? Do you have money to spend on that 1080?

For 4k the 1080 is a much better choice, but in the end it depends on game and settings.

Why it's irrelevant lol, its available for 20% less than it usually is in the OP's location, prices for 1080's for me in the UK, you in the EU or someone else in the US don't matter as the OP cant get them :)

I would get the 1080, a 390 crossfire is more of a configuration to pitch against a 980ti/1070, a 1080 will be faster in crossfire support and obviously a tonne faster in those that don't.

Not really, man. I mean, sure, I've had to turn down the settings significantly, as compared to 1080p, but most games I own are very playable at Medium-High or higher at 4K. Its sweet spot would maybe be 1440p, but definitely not 1080p.

I'd say an R9 390 Crossfire setup would be significantly faster than a 1070, but not as powerful as a 1080, perhaps.

I never said or suggested I was interested in Crossfire. In fact, I can't find a single R9 390 for sale here, used or new, at any price. I'm not going to use E-bay.

It is a lot of money to spend to get from where I am now, though. I can afford it, though it's not the best investment, and it also means that less money can be spent on things that are more important. Even if the money didn't matter too much, it's still a lot of money. Since I already have the 390, it's free. The 390 is about a 1060, maybe a little faster, depending on the situation. Getting those two notches extra, to a 1080, for the equivalent of $678, doesn't seem worth it to me, either.

Honestly, I think it's a better idea to buy a cheap-ish used car with this (and some more, likely) money. I just wish games ran better. 4K is a blessing and a curse, and this is a very great, very temporary deal. I'll stay put, though. Thanks for the help! I'll upgrade later. 1080p will have to suffice for The Witcher 3 and Deus Ex: MD.

You said maxed. It can't do all games 1440p maxed. It can do it at 1080p. I own one.

Despite multi card setup having more fps will not always also mean a smoother experience because of frametiems and other latency because of mutiple card setups.

Single card solutions are prefered. There is more to a good experience then only high fps.
