Some obvious stuff and some interesting stuff, non removable battery is not good but actually most of this stuff sounds OK to be honest. At least this is official Nintendo so rock solid information.

Yeah, just like you I believe the non-removable battery is an issue with only 3 to 6 hours usage. It would have been perfect to carry extra batteries. 

 

Then again, it can be charged via USB C so really, I could just have an external 20k mAh battery and charge it from there.

I agree wholeheartedly. A substantial battery bank could probably get you more charge for its volume compared to a bunch of Switch batteries, you won't have to pause gameplay to swap batteries every few hours, and you won't have to charge your batteries one by one.

 

I feel that battery life has become less of an issue with the popularity of power banks. When I was travelling through Canada and the US, all I had was a broken iPhone with about 2 minutes of battery life at most. I just had it plugged into a battery bank in my pocket all the time, and put the charging cable through a loop on my trousers to keep it from snagging on stuff. It worked well.

I expect a bundle by the time the holidays comes in. Maybe 1-2-Switch will be included, that would be my guess.

If not, Costco might manage to get or make a bundle. Where I am, the PS4 and XBox One Slim at Costco includes a second controller with a good game.

I recall the GameCube, despite not having a game released with it, Costco included Luigi Mention. Of course these bundles costs more than the retail price of just the console, but it is cheaper than buying them apart.

To add to the news item. The USB ports of the console is USB 3.0. HOWEVER, at release they will be USB 2.0. A firmware upgrade will come at a later date which will allow USB 3.0 support.

Honestly, Nintendo have historically been really secretive with in depth technically details, they still have never commented on what hardware is used in the Gamecube, Wii or Wii U so I'd be very surprised if they ever say any more than this.

 

Its not until people get hands on and can tear down and test do those details come.

No, Reggie has said that matchmaking will be done through a smartphone app. There's also the mandatory online subscription coming later this year.

That is to setup your match there, but you can from the game. And yes, like Sony and Microsoft, it is now paying.. people don't complain there. Why is that a problem now?

The Switch needs to be viewed as more of a handheld then a proper handheld for me to really take it seriously, but the GPU goes down to 40% clock when undocked. Ew.

 

But right now, the launch titles look like shit because no sane developer wants to launch with BOTW. so there won't be many games for the Switch until a month or two after release. BOTW doesn't justify me buying the Switch at launch and I don't blindly buy a console for one game. Even if it is the wonderful creation that is a new LOZ title. If they improve Splatoon with its second title, I'll buy that, along with BOTW and a Switch whenever Splatoon 2 does get released. (I hated the first Splatoon's controls.)

 

And I really don't like the idea of sharing the Joy-Con with a friend for split screen. It just seems like a crappy input device already, now you're giving half away...

 

It's a dilemma for me because I really want to play BOTW but I don't want to drop $300 on a console that has no other decent titles

You get that on PC. Steam's voice quality may suck ass, but that doesn't mean it's not free. Also, clarity on battle.net games is excellent, and that's free. Origin voice is shitty as well, but still free. I wouldn't know about PS4, but my brother plays Xbox one and I hear awful quality voice chat in World of Tanks and Call of Duty regularly at wayyy higher than acceptable volume. He's already paid his $60.

 

EDIT: I didn't even think to mention that Skype and Discord are both free... and although removed because consumers called out their bullshit, Microsoft used to require Gold Membership to use Skype on Xbox.

Nha, they are all bellow Skype quality. I haven't said that XBox quality was any good. I am saying that people wants XBox experience out of the Nintendo system and not pay anything for. I haven't seen XBox player complain about the lack of quality for voice chat to push Microsoft to boost it and justify the continued high price.

 

Well, you can use Skype when you play the Wii or WiiU. Just get a phone, tablet, laptop or what not, and call your friend. This is how you do it. And how I do it to on PC as well.

except when there's no wall like for example outside where the battery is needed  but seriously I think the battery is pretty respectable 3 hours is plenty people are just fussy whens the last time you spent 3 hours away from any source of power it's like you said there's power everywhere and if not get a battery bank and choose your battery life.

then again, have you ever seen a nintendo product with a removable battery that doesnt need a screwdriver? (ignoring the AA's in the gameboy color offcourse.)

The 3DS has 3h of battery life (depending on the game of course, and console settings), and that has proprietary charging cable.

Yeah, they all required a screwdriver but at least they're using normal phillips screws now. I'm always carrying a small phillips and flat screwdriver in my tools pouch so it's not a problem for me. Doesn't take more than 30 seconds to swap a 3DS's battery.
