Ideal amount of RAM for folding

Just a quick question. Whats the ideal amount of ram to have in a system for Folding only? I've noticed F@H use a little above 4gig on my main rig. How much does having less RAM (let's say 2 gig) impact folding performance?

For a Folding system (or really, any Windows machine nowadays), 4gb is the ideal. 2 is too little not so much because of folding, but because the OS (windows, in particular) eats a chunk of that RAM.

I would think 4GB is good enough. 8GB is all you that you would ever need. F@H doesn't really use memory, as far as I can tell? If you were running Linux, then you would need less than 4GB. Only RAM required is for whatever windows wants for itself to operate and chrome if you are using the web client.

Yeah, I say minimum 4GB.

Mine hovers around 3.08GB usage, and that with the CPU doing three BOINC tasks as well with Firefox open.  This of course a W7 Ult OS.

Linux on the other hand can go under 2GB.

Here a screenie of folder when I had BOINC and F@H up at same time.  1.2GB used in total.  Have to say, Linux less resource hog.  Reason I love running that OS on my folder/boinc rig.

like the rest for windows OS i would say bare min 4GBs. if you only have 2GB on hand and don't want to buy more, then go with Linux
