$300 CPU/MoBo/RAM upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am working on upgrading my friends computer. Right now he is using a phenom ii x4 that I had around and a mobo and ram to suit that. He has a budget of $300 for this upgrade. GPU to be using with this is still tbd. Its probably going to be something like an rx 480 or rx470. Here is what I came up with:

PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9bp2BP

BP/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i5-7500 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($198.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus H110M-A/M.2 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($47.89 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill Aegis 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  ($49.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $296.86

I believe that I can use a spare i3-6100 i have to update the BiOS to be able to use the 7500 with it or something like that. Anything else I should be considering?

EDIT: mATX mobo because his case only supports that

Looks like a nice little upgrade to me. Keep in mind that you will likely need to update the BIOS on any H110/Z170 boards in order to be able to use the new Kaby Lake CPUs.

When in doubt, re-format.

I'd just check to make sure that the boards BIOS actually supports Kaby. Other than that, looks good.
