980ti @ 3440*1440

lkarej

How well y'all think a 980ti (fancy special asus one) will perform at 3440*1440.
Any personal experience would be appreciated.
Looking to get one of those fancy monitors after april (maybe sooner depending on circumstances), would like to know any details on how well the 980ti performs.

Again, any input/personal experience testimony or w/e would be greatly appreciated.

I make bad life decisions.

because that's what I have in my pc
Why else would I specifically mention a 980ti.
Not like they perform similar or anything anyways...

But you said you are getting in april?

Anyway, a 1070 (better a bit than 980ti)

the monitor silly

Also I would never directly support Nvidia again.
And by that I mean by a new Nvidia card.

Don't expect it to run games on ultra settings if you're playing at native resolution, and don't expect it to be able to maintain 60fps unless you really crank the details down. if you plan on replacing the card in a year or two, go for it, but don't expect to run AAA titles at native resolution in a few years.

Why would you not directly support Nvidia again? just wondering.

AMD is IMO the better company, and it's really awesome that they open-source their technologies, but NVidia makes good cards with solid performance.

I don't like NVidia, I prefer not to get into the argument in public threads.
Mostly has to do with my personal experiences with them that I know isn't just an issue on my end because it's supported by other people's testing as well.

As said, prefer not to go into it in a public thread because people will probably STILL get pissed about it even though most people stopped caring like a year ago.

Im running 2560×1440  with a 1070 and I get acceptable performance in current AAA games (70-90fps) with ultra details -> maybe you will barely crack the 60 with your planned setup.

But I would go for it anyways, a screen like that is a huge felt upgrade and I would recommend to get the 1440p sweetspot card of the next generation to enjoy the full experience.
I'm pretty sure we will see 100+ fps on ultra 1440p (and ultra wide) on a $500 card in the next generation.

Well next gen we'll probably get Titan XP performance for a GTX 1080 pricetag, and GTX 1080 performance in a 1070 pricetag.

And wouldn't that yield the result I described? :D

Yeah I'm more or less buying the monitor before the card (if it goes to plan, I might end up just saving my money and sticking with 1080p tbh).
but if I do go through with it I'd probs be upgrading to the top end Vega card (heard ~1080ish performance, I'll wait and see before I make any final decisions though).

Kinda just seeing what kind of performance to expect if I do go through with it. It's a huge money commitment for a student/part time worker (about 2000 CAD total assuming the top tier vega card is ~500 CAD).
Could buy a car instead lmao.

might end up just buying a 2560*1080 and call it a day though. We'll see how it goes.

You should be fine considering your card is better than mine and on most current titles my Fury copes pretty well with high settings and ultra easily on older games.
