Server cooling for 4790k?

TheGeeker

What would be a good option for cooling a 4790k in this case?

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1UH52E1920

Not sure what will fit and what wont. I have a 212 evo but I am 100% its too big.

use the stock cooler than, its not a good idea to put a cpu cooler in a hot cpu such as a 4790k.

Not sure I understand " its a good idea to put a cpu cooler in a hot cpu". Maybe its just phrasing but IDK what you even said there.

I'd recommend looking into Noctua's low-profile CPU coolers. The Rosewill is a pretty good case and I'm using one of these:

It has about two inches of space until it hits the top.

LH-9i vs LH L12? Whats the difference?

Are there detailed specs on the case that tell you how high you can go? I can find mention of it on manufacturer's page.

As a rough estimate, Noctua make the D9DX i4 3U (same as D9L with different mount parts), which as its name suggests, is for 3U cases and the OP's is 4U. The cooler is specified at 110mm, so add another 45mm (for 1U extra) you might have about 155mm cooler height to play with. The 212 is rated at 159mm... it's gonna be close!

If you do need a different cooler, the one ZMeul seems like a good choice if it doesn't interfere with anything else in case or mobo.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

The 9i is shorter and the fan goes above the heatsink. The 4U will have more than enough space for either. I prefer the L12 since the fan can be placed on the underside to direct heat away from the board and heatsink.

Anything [lower than] the size of a Gammaxx 400 will fit.

Yeah, a 212 evo (And most 120mm fan tower coolers) will not fit.

I have  Cooler Master Hyper D92, but I only have a Xeon to keep cool and that doesn't run as hot as your CPU. I'd also say go for the Noctua cooler mentioned above. Most 92mm towers should fit.
