STEAM now allows you to move the game from a STEAM library folder to another

I used GamePipe (a open source project) to move my STEAM games from a location to another, and before that ... manually through STEAM's folders - was a nightmare

now, STEAM does this naturally:

but for en-masse move, I'll still use GamePipe as STEAM seems to do individual moves not on queue - I might be wrong

Not like this.  You used to have to move the game files to a temp folder, then "delete local files" within Steam, then move them from the temp location to the new steam library, then reinstall the game which would discover the local files.  Now you just click "move".

nifty to have when you have a pretty small SSD and a large HDD. i move Steam games out of my SSD to HDD pretty often. though i'm not sure how Steam will handle modified game files or additional mod files.

I've always copied it directly, then upon next launch it'll prepare for download then simply discover the files in the other steam library folder. (As long as you choose the right folder to "download" to) Done this hundreds of times

Same, but it becomes a pretty tedious process when it decides to not recognize the game files in the new folder.

I guess that's slightly easier but it's basically the same thing.  This new method should in theory allow you to avoid the revalidating step, which for a large game on a HDD can take a considerable amount of time and renders the drive basically unusable for anything else during that process.

Unless Steam has grown smart enough to know what folder I want Slayaway Camp on, I think you need to click more than just move, probably also have to pick the other Steam library folder to move to, and then "Okay."

I've never had to reinstall a game when moving it, steam just picks it up. There has been the very rare game that requires it but that's more of a game issue than steam. You can just move it straight to the new library, delete local content than remove and re-add the library where it is now located and steam will pick it back up as installed.

 

Having a move button certainly is nice.

unless you have more than 2 libraries STEAM will default to the one the game is not on, when trying to move it

 

if you look at the pic I posted in the OP, the game (Guards) is installed on my D drive and when I try to move it it defaults to the other library in Program Files

By reinstall, I just mean you had to click the button.  It wouldn't re-download anything, it would just "discover local files", which is the same thing you're describing I think.

It didn't do that yesterday with my SSD-it would only discover files within the primary library on my HDD, not the second one on my SSD.

Sort of, my way it comes up as installed already just click play. More useful when moving many games since you just cut and paste, not copy, the remove all your steam libraries then re-add. Moving a single game would be wayyy easier this new way.

Yay! This will really help on my laptop which has two medium size SSDs but never enough space on the right one for whatever I'm doing...

 

I've found manually moving entire folders easy enough, but not to pick games individually so avoided that by delete, redownload. At least, they weren't for big games...
