RX 460 not running any games after updatingdriver to 17.1.1

Hello guys, bought an RX 460 Sapphire 2 GB for my 2nd pc as it lay sitting there with no gpu and thought about some 720p gaming on it (co op and multiplayer with my main rig) for my sister and cousins. Well, after updating to the optional AMD drivers 17.1.1, my RX 460 does not run any games at all except DOOM on Vulkan. Every other game from steam crashes on the main menu. EA games seem to crash after the EA logo. Original Windows 10 x64 bit, AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE with 8 gigs of ddr3 memory.

 

Tried playing on windows 7 yet nothing works except DOOM on vulkan and yeah, DOOM runs perfectly fine with TSAA X8 and everything low on 130 to 140 fps avg on 720p. Should I RMA ? or is my pc dying ?

Try removing your drivers and then install something older like 17.1

The older one is 16.12.2

The 17.1.1 is beta iirc so it might not be stable.

No. Didn't work. Used DDU, AMD cleanup utility. Even installed windows 10 and windows 7 freshly. And tried all the drivers specified for each os. Doesn't work either. Except DOOM on Vulkan

Yes. It doesn't work at all. Even tried drivers from the manufacturers' site. Doesn't work. Imma stick it to my main rig, intel core i7 4770, Antec 650 watts psu and Gigabyte R9 290X with 16 gigs of ddr3 and let you know. I RMAed the last one as it didn't give me any display on both rigs. And this one worked fine but it's weird now.

Maybe you could try putting the 290x in there and see if it works with the 290x. If it does then GPU needs to be RMAed. Up to you though. Most likely your GPU is faulty.

Well, the 290X doesn't fit in that case but the RX 460 is running perfectly fine on my i7. Can play all games on desired framerates, can this be the motherboard pcie slot problem ?

Btw my mobo doesnt turn on and after cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and banging it for sometime, it turns on. Even the display on the gpu remains blank. Gigabyte M68MTS2P. Need a new one.. MSI 970A G43 AM3+ good ? It's pretty cheap here now.

Hmm sounds like it could be, especially if the 460 works in the other pc. I don't know enough about older AMD motherboards so if you want a recommendation for one I suggest you post another topic for advice
