FFXIV 1440P 90FPS need some advice on upgrades.

Hey guys, My wife and I are huge into Final Fantasy XIV, and we both already have mean builds. I recently got a new monitor that supports 2560x1440@90hz, and I would really like to be able to achieve this on a more stable basis. I can hit 90fps now, but not consistently, I seem to average around 70-75fps on my current build. 

 

Here is my build:

CPU: i7 3820 OC @ 4.2GHz

MOBO: EVGA X79 FTW

RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600 (Quad Channel)

GPU: 980 ti OC @ +200Mhz / +300mhz

PSU: (dont remember the exact model but its Corsair, and 1000w)

 

I was considering getting a second 980ti, especially since the prices are dropping for used ones. However I am starting to wonder if since were talking MMOs and not FPS, or something like GTA, that maybe something else is actually my bottle neck and not the GPU. Does anyone have any recommendations? maybe faster RAM? I know a second GPU cant hurt, but if there is something potentially bottle necking my system, id rather start there.

Reduce your settings to low. And see what FPS you are getting. If it doesn't change much it's likely that CPU is bottleneck

I have actually tried that, and my FPS shoots up dramatically. In fact if I just simply disable SSAO my FPS jumps up into the 100s. But I really really enjoy having the ssao cranked up all the way, it makes the game look so nice. 

 

But this is what lead lead me to thinking of adding a second card. I just want to make sure I didn't overlook something else before spending the money.

but does ffxiv even supports sli? Most mmos sure as hell does not.

Seems to be supporting it.
You should see with MSI afterburner if GPU is working hardest and sitting on a high load.
IMO single 980ti should handle this just fine.

Yep, FFXIV supports SLi just fine. I used to run it on 3 660ti's before getting the 980ti

 

we plan on having us a gaming weekend starting as soon as I get off of work today. So this afternoon when I login I'll keep an eye on CPU, RAM, GPU, and VRAM loads and post back with some numbers.

Alrighty, I think I may have just answered my own question.

 

According to NZXT CAM;

CPU Load: 33%

RAM Useage: 44%

GPU Useage:..........99%

 

and that's with Steam, Firefox, and Chrome open in the background with several tabs each. So correct me if Im wrong, but its looking like that second 980Ti is exactly what I need.
