FX 8350 to i5 7600k worth the upgrade?

kennymax89

My current Computer

ASUS MG279Q Black 27" IPS 144Hz (Free Sync)

Corsair Air 540

AMD FX 8350 (not overclocked)

NZXT x61 Kraken

Asus Crosshair Formula Z (MB)

MSI R9 390X 8GB Gaming

G.Skill 16GB (4x4GB)

Samsung Evo 850 250GB

I was thinking of replacing CPU, GPU, and motherboard with these. ( I already have a 16GB kit of DDR4 2400 sitting around)

Intel Core i5-7600K (maybe overclock)

GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming

ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX GAMING

DO you guys think I will notice a big difference in Gaming? I play alot of AAA titles as well as world of warcraft.

nzxt 61 doesn't look teh best and the air 540 is really really big for a build without custom watercooling

You'd be able to get some decent prices for the 8350 with a XhairFormula mobo.

I'd say you'd notice a difference on the single-core performance alone. Go for it.

This video shows the 6600K smoking the 8350. Your choice man

Very much worth it. Can you fit an i7 in the budget?

Going with a 1070 means higher performance but losing adaptive refresh from Freesync.

Depending on the settings and performance you want, getting a 7600k can be a substantial upgrade for games like WoW in more crowded areas.

That being said, I wouldn't bother upgrading just yet if you're fine with your current experience.

A lot of games might go from 75 to 100 fps. Some games will see no gains. Old games will run at 400 instead of 200 xD

Overclocking that CPU should help though, and in your position I would personally wait for one more generation. Either AMD or Intel will have a better value proposition by the end of 2017, and until then the FX-8350 can still play games. New titles that take advantage of so many cores will be really not that bad on an 8350. Tweaking settings is always recommended.

I also heard (from @W-L I think) that running an Nvidia GPU with a Freesync monitor may a lot of the time lock the monitor down to 60Hz, unless you use overclocking software to bring it up to its rated refresh rate. Same goes for trying to use a Gsync monitor with an AMD card.

Hey, I'm a guy on the internet, not a cop.

But most Ultrawides will accept 75hz if you explicitly ask for it by making a custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panel.

Anything higher it just screams 'nope' and comes up with 'out of range'

idk

The only thing is it's still not a guarantee you will get 75Hz without freesync, but the fact that it was designed to do so with that should help it along when you overclock it.

I would say no if you had 60Hz monitor but for pushing the 144FPS the i5 7600k will be definitely better.

Anyway... I would still wait for Ryzen and then decide.
