ill get the one gtx 1080 and decide from there.

changed to the NH-D15S for the cooling solution.

changed MB to X99 deluxe  (whats the difference between this and the x99 A2?)

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nbQjqk

The Deluxe-II has onboard WiFi, dual LAN, more USB 3.0 and 3.1 and some more PCIe16x physical slots.

i am going to be doing a new pc build at the end of january this year

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/joshrobinson03/saved/6Bv6hM

Mainly this pc is for:

  • Gaming
  • University work( particularly Game Design working in Autodesk programs and sculpting programs)
  • YouTube Rendering Note: i am just starting into this and have looked into the 5960X and seen that its a bit too far out of my price range for a CPU if i was heavily into rendering and youtube-ing on a daily basis then this would have been thrown in.
  •  Recording footage in 60 fps (hopefully in 1440p)

i realise that the total of this is a little bit over £4,500 but i am also going to be getting some bits and bobs for management and style so to speak so a set of arms from Ergotech and a headphone stand which will be for under my desk. (maybe a graphics tablet as i'm currently working with these in university)

note: i currently have a 1440p monitor of the same model that is on the list so 3 monitors altogether.

Mainly I'm wondering on if :

  • the motherboard would be suitable with there being 2 gtx 1080's being there as part of what i know is that the motherboard came out a few years before the graphics cards did
  • i have currently got a wireless adapter in the PC i am currently on would the one included in the motherboard be better ? i see that its more ideal as its built into the motherboard itself
  • would the build overall be overkill or balanced when it comes to gaming or even production work?
  • would the cooler i have chosen be good ? as this is my first water-cooled PC build

this is WAYYY overkill.  Save some money and get a 6700k, 1 GTX 1080, 2 of the Same WD Black Drive for either raid 0 or raid 1, 2 cheaper 256GB 2.5" SSds in raid 0, and a cheaper AIO if you NEED water ( I would recommend a hyper 212 Evo, it wayyy cheaper for similar performance)

I can help with programming and hardware.

i have been told that for 3 1440p monitors would need at least 2 gtx 1080s to run them, i already own a hyper 212 EVO and would like to upgrade.

in terms of performance which is better the 6700k or the 6800k?

when it comes to the drives what do you mean by Raid 0 or 1.

the SSD will only be used for boot drive and program start ups

NOT TRUE! ive ran 3 1440p monitors with this exact setup in my bio, and unless its not gaming it all runs fine. if you want a really good, not overkill or too expensive setup just take a look at mine and maybe change it up a bit! i am really not dissapointed in this pc ive had i for quite a while now.....only the cpu cooler is a tid too loud for my taste

I don't think it needs 2 1080s, maybe 2 1070.

Czech out the Noctua lineup, for example the Noctua NH-D15

The 6800K is a six-core processor, so it's better for CPU encoding in video editing, while the 6700K has higher clockspeed (but both are unlocked, so with good enough cooling the 6800K could run at 4+ GHz)

RAID0 means striping data across multiple drives, improving performance at the cost of data loss risk.

RAID1 means mirroring data across multiple drives, lowering risk of data loss

Decided to go about it like this

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/joshrobinson03/saved/6Bv6hM

taken the 5tb HDD out, looked into the 2x samsung 256gb and found it to be more expensive.

It's still way overkill, it's still wasting money.

Liquid cooler: personally, I think you can get the same or better temperatures with a quality air heatsink, like the Noctua NH-D15 or D15S

Motherboard: so, so, soooooooo unnecessary

GPUs: have you considered getting one, seeing if it works for you, and if not, getting the other?

That's my two cents on your build, but at the end of the day, if you can afford to drop 1000Ł on hardware that might not be necessary then do as you please.

ill get the one gtx 1080 and decide from there.

changed to the NH-D15S for the cooling solution.

changed MB to X99 deluxe  (whats the difference between this and the x99 A2?)

I would suggest a few additional changes:

  • Change out the NH-D15S in favor of an NH-U14S. Unless you plan to push the oc, the two coolers have roughly the same performance. The NH-U14S has no memory clearance issues on LGA2011-3 motherboards.
  • Get a better performing memory kit. The described workload will show the difference.
  • Get a newer generation M.2 ssd. the 960 Pro has better performance than the 950 Pro.
  • The EVGA P2 850W psu is slightly better than the G2 unit and will consume a ha'penny or two less power.

If you plan to game across multiple monitors a second GTX 1080 might make sense. Otherwise a single gpu is quite sufficient.
