When the government fails to keep up with technology and volunteer initiatives have to ask for donations on crowdfunding sites to equip public schools with proper tools for 21st century education.

We are Croatian Makers (IRIM - Institute for Youth Development and Innovativity) and we are the largest educational initiative in the STEM field in the Croatian school system.

We cannot wait for a curriculum reform. Children deserve a modern education right NOW!

Instead of 19th century style rote learning in the atmosphere of submission towards any kind of authority figure, kids need modern competencies, development of a growth mindset and a strong character – i.e. skills they will need to participate on an equal footing in the society and economy of the 21st century.

Quote

As the first phase of our project we would like to donate at least 3600 micro:bits to at least 360 schools and institutions involved in the Croatian Makers league.

They already passed their initial goal of 60000$

Quote

Update: stretch goal – 100,000$

In less than 24 hours we have achieved our primary goal and now we are aiming even higher at - 100,000$. If we achieve that goal we will include more than 500 institutions into the project!

I'm posting this here simply to raise awareness of this project.

Yup, when government is incapable of feeding its own schools, I am glad that there are funding campaigns that allow for the people to help out.

It would be pretty awesome if in the future a country or community completely eschewed taxes and funded their own services through a better system. Especially would to see a country that does this in response to corrupt af politicians stealing their taxes.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

When the gov fails us, we unite! And eventually turn against them :P

Anyway it's not like my gov is doing much better...

The class i'm following is meant for around 27 students per class, some subjects have over 40 students and we don't even fit in the biggest class rooms.

But the gov however does have enough money to give the national supercomputer a big upgrade... I don't understand them but oh well.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Spying on everyone to fight against terrorism is like shooting a mosquito with a cannon

There yet may be hope for my country. Not for the government, but for the people.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
