  1. 1. What is the optimum case fan setup for Phanteks P400S TG - X99 - 6800K - 280mm AIO Cooler Build?

    • 2x SP 140mm + AIO rad as intake at the front in push or pull (high/med speed), 2x AF140mm's as exhaust at the top (med/low speed), 1x 120mm stock at rear exhaust (med speed) - 5 FAN SETUP
    • 2x SP 140mm + AIO rad as exhaust at the front in push or pull (high/med speed), 2x AF140mm's as intake at the top (high speed), 1x 120mm stock at rear exhaust (med speed) - 5 FAN SETUP

    • 4x SP 140mm + AIO rad as intake at the front in push+pull (high/med speed), 2x AF140mm's as exhaust at the top (med/low speed), 1x 120mm stock at rear exhaust (med speed) - 7 FAN SETUP

Looking for some advice on fan setup for my new build. I want to maintain positive pressure within the case w.r.t ambient, while enabling high air flow within the case to cool down the GPU. I currently have 2x stock case fans (Phanteks 120mm), a 280mm Kraken X62 AIO cooler (comes with 2x SP 140mm fans), and 2x Corsair AF140 LED fans, making a total of 5 fans that I need to position within the case. Keep in mind that the AIO cooler and its fans can only be mounted in the front due to clearance issues, which brings down the number of combinations that I am left with. I might also consider getting 2 additional SP 140mm fans to run a Push-Pull config on the AIO cooler to get more air across the rad (due to the small size of intake vents on the case, I have some concerns about air supply). Having the two fans at the top in opposing air flow directions will essentially negate each other, so I do not have that as a potential option.  I also do not want to use the rear exhaust fan as an intake as it does not have an air filter. This leaves me with the following options, which I've listed in the form of a poll. Please vote or leave a comment if you have a better setup configuration in mind. Cheers!

It really doesn't matter that much as long as you have fans on all the radiators and you have positive air pressure. The advantages of more fans really start diminishing after 3 or 4.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Honestly, you should try the two different 5-fan setups yourself.

I have to admit I like the idea of trying the front exhaust (through rad), having three intakes in the back.  I don't know how well that will work.

Directing airflow is important as it can nullify any dead zones of hot air.
