Forum resource usage - It would be nice if it were less taxing

Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

The majority of the battery usage is rendering gifs, rather than anything that we can control. You can fix that by making a user style for the forum that includes

img[src*=.gif] {
	display: none;
}

(untested but probably should work, hides all gifs).

Hello,

This is not really about a bug or an "issue" (although that would depend on the definition), but I've noticed the forum makes significant use of the cpu causing noticeable dips in my laptop's battery life (and causing the fan to spin up, although that's a minor problem), especially on the home page. I suppose this is to offer real time updates etc, but it would be nice if we had the option to make the page "less active" to save up some battery life, particularly for people like me who keep the forum always open in a tab.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please聽馃え

"the forum uses too much battery"

"try hiding all gifs"

-OP has a gif profile picture-

i somehow see a sense of irony in this :P

Well, I didn't know that was the "problem" ^^ either way if blocking gif rendering works I'll be content with seeing my beautiful profile on desktop only

i liked what oldschool opera did, where all flash (this was before html video :P), gif, or otherwise animated content would display as a static replacement that would only load fully when clicked.

Vivaldi probably has that option available.
