Monitor choice?

Vinny1216

   have i5 6600k oc at 4.5ghz, also 2 evga 1080 hybrids sli w/ there 4k led bridge.

I have looked through the CES monitors that are releasing Q1 this year and am not sure what to get. Im looking to get the most out of my gpu hp,

i looked at a new 27 in asus 3440x2160 144hz monitor (even in sli i dont think i can hit that refresh), the new asus x34p 3440x1440 100hz out of box refresh and a 1900r curve.

And also the hp omen x 35 also 3440x1440 100hz 1800r...................i do like the 21:9 ultra wides but are there any that challenge my pc for the 100hz?

what is the equivalent of a 21:9 3440x1440, is it a 16:9 3440x2160. I am confused on this. does pushing the extra pixels on an ultra wide make up for the res. gap? or is there no diff?

I currently use a benq xr3501 2560x1080 on my old rig i5 4790k stock clock and two r9 390x. looks great but i want to move up either in ultra wide or a 4k 16:9.

any ides on which monitor? or possibly one i haven't listed?     Thanx Guys

I'd go with the new Asus. You have dual 1080s. You can push that res over 100Hz in most games, and those that you can't will still easily be over 60, and with G-Sync it will still look great. Don't make the mistake of dropping that much on your cards but not getting a monitor with which you can enjoy them.

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

I guess you mean i7 4790k

Now I don't know much about monitors, but since you have GTX 1080, you should be looking at monitor with g-sync. Yes they are more expencive, but they are worth it. At least for gaming.

If you want wide 21:9 or curved ... that's up to you. I don't realy like any of those. I had ultrawide monitor for 1 week and I returned it because I couldn't get used on it. Not everyone likes the same thing.

You have 2x GTX 1080, and those together are more than capable of running 4K at decent FPS. So just get some 4K monitor that looks good to you.

And why do you have i5 6600k paired with 2x GTX 1080? That's kinda bottlenecking you if you ask me. Normally i7 6700k would be used to SLI that good GPUs. Or better yet X99 builds.

i was going to get the i7 6700k but is geared more for productivity, which i dont do, only gaming. Have seen much research on this and i loose 5% at most on cpu performance. unlikely, but may upgrade though if i see bottleneck.

With those GPUs u will hit 144FPS on e-sport titles.

With your budget you certainly have money to upgrade every 2 years. But maybe u keep your monitors longer than that ? If so, get 144Hz 4K.

If u always have an itch for upgrades then 100Hz will do and you can upgrade once 4K 144Hz is more common and u get volta SLI or whatever gen is after that :)

BF1 at 1080p uses all my cores on i7 (80%+), if I had your GPUs I would want the maximum performance. Its a weird combo to have $1500+ worth of GPUs paired with $280 CPU... I like that you will consider it if your i5 isnt up to the task.

Just a quick note:  I would strongly suggest that before you consider the 144hz 4K you wait until they announce concrete details, because to my knowledge there isn't a cable that will run 144hz at 4k while also using the other features that monitor is advertising (I want to say it caps out at 120hz).  Personally I also want to know whether it can do ULMB because to me it's a bigger deal to remove frame permanence that causes motion blur than to have a higher refresh rate.  I'll be keeping my eyes open for the Asus monitor depending on the price, but if it's over $1000 I'll likely wait because that's ridiculous considering the hardware it takes to run.  I'm also still holding out hope that someone will do a glossy panel, because matte finish sucks... but I'm not going to hold my breath.

this may seem like a really dumb question but the 27in asus 4k uhd says it only supports nvidia geforce gtx cards for 144hz. are my evga 1080 hybrids compatible for this feature?

i oc it to 4.5ghz without having to mess w/ voltages....would a stronger oc say 4.7ghz get me to snuff? Currently runs 28c idle, 41load, so temp r good higher volt. may challenge my noc. air cooler

I honestly cant say, but if all my cores get used there must be a reason and slight benefit. Your best bet is to ask i5 owners who have 1080 or better.

I mean, there surely is some fps difference no doubt but it can be as minimal as 2fps or higher. Test it yourself, comp[are results with someone.

At 1080p your i5 should hold your SLI (if game is super optimized) back by few frames. But at higher res the bottlenecking is less of an issue. But why are there no people with 4K screens and i5 CPUs ?!
