Should I flip the Power Supply switch off after I shut down my pc ?

JensenEx

You should only use it in case you'll be messing with hardware, if you just want the PC to be off there is no need to.

Hello everyone, I'm Juan and I'm new to computer hardware.

I've just recently built my own gaming pc and I was just wondering should I flip the ON/OFF switch on the Power supply off after I shut down my computer ? I've read some of the answers from Tom's Hardware forum but they don't seems to answer my question. Will leaving the Power supply flip switch on harm my PSU in anyway or the components in my pc or will switching it off every time I shut down my pc and switching it on when I wanted to switch on my pc do any current tripping or any harm to my PSU ? Thanks in advanced.

My PSU : Cooler Master Elite 500W

If you've powered down your PC it's fine, you don't need to keep flicking the PSU on and off also :)

It wont harm anything if its shut down properly, but why do it? The amount of power you would save would be negligible, no point in having to reach around every time to turn it on.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

I actually have the exact same question. The only difference is that the PSU Fan is still spinning and the Motherboard LEDS are still on after I turn the computer off.

It won't affect anything but you should leave the switch on since there's no reason to turn it off. Also what are your PC specs? The PSU you have is pretty trash and should be replaced if you have a decent GPU.

The reason why I ask is because I leave the PSU on so the LEDs in my keyboard and my mouse is on and it makes my room looks epic when I'm in my room with the lights off before sleeping

Watercooler + i3

OK

Well I'd replace your PSU if you ever upgrade your GPU or CPU, I suppose.

Apparently I have some trouble with my PSU, sometimes when I'm using my PC either gaming or just browsing the net I can sometimes hear noise coming from my PSU, the noise is like click click click click with more like electric sound resemblance...I'm not sure what it is and I'm super worried about it. And yeah I'm planning to change my PSU to a PSU with 80 plus bronze and I was just wondering if KCAS from Aerocool will be a good PSU ? I'm from Malaysia so most shops are occupied with these asia brands stuff.

It's not really a good PSU, no. Check the PSU whitelist in my signature for Aercool's good units.

Thanks a lot for your PSU whitelist, I have some better idea on what type of PSU to get in the near future, thanks a lot again.
