That's hard to achieve when the mbp came out within days of the kaby lake launch. Of course the new iteration should have it, but it may be too much to ask it of the current model.

Especially when Kaby Lake wasn't announced until a few months after the release of the product which used Skylake!

How is there no point?  People use Macs for RAM heavy applications all the time.

Except then they would have had to delay the launch for months. Not to mention it takes time to develop a product and you can't just swap components at the last minute. It's the same reason why the surface studio uses maxwell and not Pascal.

I doubt they started designing the mbp in june to release it less than 3 months later. It's likely by the time kaby became available they were too close to release to completely change the chipset. You can usually count me in when it comes to criticizing apple but what's fair is fair.

Says you. Maybe someone else expects all the ram he wants when he drops 3 grand on a dual core laptop. It's not true that there are no benefits (particularly in ->PRO<- applications) to more tha 16GB of ram. It's the "oh the screen size on the iphone 4s is perfect" argument all over again, defending a limitation until Lord Apple is kind enough to improve on it 3 years after everyone else.

If you've ever used anything in the Adobe Creative Suite you'll know there is a big difference between merely running and running well.

As people have already said, there is many more important things that cause the MacBook to not be able to run pro application but who the hell wants 32GB of RAM in a dual core machine. Plus if you are even running an application that benefits from more RAM (ex. Premiere) on a laptop you arent expecting super fast render times.

I don't have any inherent dislike for Macs, other than how they are intentionally making them more difficult to repair without spending ridiculous amounts of money.  Usually, they're good computers.  I'm making the same argument I'd be making against any other company that pulled this kind of crap.  If it was less than $1000, I would be absolutely fine with it.

Im assuming youre fine with the XPS series then? It costs slightly less for similar specs but is still over the $1000 mark

You'd have to point me to a specific laptop, but looking at this one that's roughly $1000, I'd say it's a total waste of money.  A grand for 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, and an i5-7200U is pitiful.  Especially since you can't upgrade the RAM.  It's more suited for a $700 price tag.

First of all there are quad core models (in the 15") and maybe if anything this means the 13" should have quad cores too. Why isn't more ram available on those if cpu power is the issue in 13" models in your opinion?

 

I agree, it's not the only issue with the mbp. At all. But it is one issue and it's the one we were discussing right now.

I agree, it's not the only issue with the mbp. At all. But it is one issue and it's the one we were discussing right now.

The issue is blown way out of proportion though. And yes, I did forget to mention the quad cores, but they are still very weak compared to even a desktop i5. If you are doing serious rendering work you arent going to be using a macbook

Well as I said, I get called a hater for holding Apple to the same standards as any other brand.  I would NEVER recommend a laptop like the one I linked to a customer.  Not even I was being paid to.  It's a total waste of money.

 

Btw, I've owned a Macbook before.
