Laptop 240hz

i cant find any spec for what the monitor uses as interface though even if it could connect there's not many games that a 980 m could run at 240hz

Looks like it uses dvi dual link 2 hdmi ports or displayport1.2 and the yours only has 1 hdmi and the display port only seems to be 1 as its not listed as 1.2 so probly not

Just use the Mini DisplayPort on the laptop. Get a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable.

 

The GTX 980M supports HDMI 2.0 which can do 1080p 240 Hz also, but the CPU's integrated graphics only support HDMI 1.4, and sometimes the power saving GPU-switching features (like NVIDIA optimus) can interfere with the GPU's HDMI 2.0 capabilities, so that may or may not work. DisplayPort should work either way though.
