The Surface Studio was, by far, one of the most hyped releases of 2016. Is it possible for a device almost solely aimed at creatives to live up to that hype?

Would have been a good idea to make the PC portion removable but proprietary, so at least you would have to buy their own next gen PC but not rebuy the screen

At that price, a full SSD option should be included preferably a M.2 NVMe one. I watched other reviews of the Surface Studio and they pretty much have the same conclusion that the pen is good but not as accurate as Wacom's offering.  For the price the specs are middling but it's not bad considering it's a first generation product.

Great review, it pretty much ended how I thought it was gonna end though: "Its almost there, the next iteration will get it right". I just wish there was more working professional opinions throughout the video because that's only way to look at this device. There are so many people who shit on the product for the wrong reasons. I'm sorry, you're not an artist? Well don't buy it then. Its not for gaming so quit comparing it to one.

Perhaps at Pixar scale, but they're using Macs as client systems in conjunction with a massive render farm, so using the Studio in a similar manner wouldn't matter anyways.

 

For most artists, people like RuDragon, Tom Fischbach, Mike Krahulik (who said in his early review that it was comparable to a similar sized qHD Cintiq + similar spec'd system), Veronica Vero, Rob DenBleyker/Kris Wilson/ Dave McElfatrick, the Surface Studio is a very competent system, and a much better alternative to Wacom's Cintiq offerings.

The system would also be very viable for indie animators.

When jerry was testing it, there was very noticable lag when drawing in more advanced software

Microsoft Remote Desktop supports Pen and Touch inputs so you could easily use it as a thin client when it gets outdated (or now).

It better use a desktop grade i5/i7 and a GTX 1060m, a faster SSD and a more accurate pen for the next Surface Studio 2.
