TIME TO UPGRADE?

I have an i7 6700k with 32GB RAM (the 16gb was a gift) and I have a AMD R9 380 4GB I play story games in 1080p (not really into online games) I also do some photoshop and video editing. Is it worth upgrading to a new gpu? Specifically the GTX 970, RX 480, GTX 1060

The R9 380 is ok for what you use, however, if you are into less power consuming and more efficient GPU's then i would recommend the GTX 1050 TI or the 1060 depending on your budget

1050 TI is worse than the r9 380, regardless of power consumption why would you match an i7 6700k with a 1050 ti. 

 

 

Get a Vega GPU or a GTX 1070, a 970, 480, or 1060 aren't a huge enough step up to justify the cost.

Imo the "worst" gpu you should upgrade to would be a 1070 as the others will give such a small performance benefit considering the price. Upgrading to any lower gpu than the 1070 is just a waste of money

The 480 and 1060 would give about a 45%increase over the 380. Not a small increase if you ask me. 

 

Op: only upgrade if you feel if you aren't getting the performance you want. The 380 is still a decent card

I doubt you will see a "real" 45% increase. Sure maybe around 40% ish but considering the money you would have to drop on it it seems useless to buy a low-mid range card. 

 

And the rig itself already has a i7 and 32gb of ram, it makes more sense to buy a 1070 or above. But as you said its OP's choice but I wouldn't buy a card below a 1070 with those specs.

Just went and checked some benchmarks. The 1060 is about 15-30fps faster in games at 1080p vs the rx380.

You literally just looked on userbenchmark to pull that number up, didn't you?

Ok so say 30-40% . I don't care the exact number,  but either would be a decent increase over the 380. But as I said,  the Op should only upgrade if they feel that they aren't getting the performance they want. You going to nitpick over 5%? Lol. 

 

And I knew that number when I was looking to upgrade my r9 280x on my son's computer,  decided not yet. As he plays alot of minecraft.

Userbenchmark compares some pretty useless things. The 1060 and a good AIB 480 like mine are easily 70% faster than a 380.

It depends what you mean by story games. If by that you mean titles such as the Witcher 3, then sure.
