64GB vs 128GB. is the space necessary?

Hey guys, 

 

So I have a OP 3t ordered and I noticed the 128GB is back "in stock" to order. I have the 64GB version ordered and its kinda tempting to bump up to the 128GB for only $40. Sense of "future-proofing"

 

Other than music, high res photos and videos, what else could possibly use up that much space.

You could download a ridiculous amount of games.

Future proofing doesn't make any sense here. You likely won't have the phone long enough for it to matter. Things decrease in size over time, not increase (generally). 

 

As for necessary? You're the only one that can answer that.

just use cloud storage if you really need the space

Battlefield 1 is 50GB, Witcher 3 over 30GB, Far Cry 4 30GB, Dishonored 2 60GB, Hitman 50GB, do I have to keep going?

my previous phone running jelly bean had 8GB storage and i never filled it up before i replaced. it did have an SD card. I dont know how I can even fill my current phone with 32GB storage

I made an argument unrelated to the OP, silly me. But the trend for file sizes to go down is untrue, in fact the contrary is apparent. I would still choose the 64GB because what are you going to store on your phone that's that big?

I'm looking up the borderlands and doom 3 storage requirements. to me they represent the generation of games that can be played on mobile hardware; ps2 & early ps3 era games. I think half life 2 was about 4 CDs when it originally came out and doom 3 might have been on 2 or 3 CDs

From what I've experienced, yes.

I think it's relative. Games are getting huge content wise. Thus, file size increases. I'd imagine the file sizes are smaller.

Hell, The Secret World came out 5 years ago and is 47GB.

 

Star Citizen's projected final size is guessed to be in the neighbourhood of 180GB... lol

 

As for phones, you'd want most games on internal storage and not an SD card so I'd opt for at least 64GB but I don't think for the next 2-3 years that any more than that is necessary.
