Nintendo reveals more specs for the Switch except for the ones that matter? That's not good....

AlTech

Nintendo has officially revealed some more specs for the Nintendo Switch game console.

The screen is a cool 6.2 inch 1280x720 display (probably IPS or OLED).

The console itself has a meager 32GB of internal storage (granted, of the shelf ARM CPU cores don't have native support for SATA. This requires custom chip design to achieve)

The unit has 802.11ac Wi-Fi (presumably also BT4.0).

Battery life will be between 2.5 and 6 hours depending on how intensive and demanding the game is.

Nintendo’s latest console.

The Nintendo Switch device offers a 6.2-inch, 720p multitouch display that runs at a 1280 x 720 resolution when used in a handheld mode. When docked, the Switch is capable of outputting full 1080p visuals through an HDMI connection to an attached TV. Nintendo says that the Switch runs off a custom Nvidia Tegra processor, but hasn’t released more specific details.

Storage-wise, the Switch includes 32GB of onboard memory, which feels dramatically low in today’s age of 500GB and 1TB Xbox Ones and PS4s, especially with the modern focus on downloadable titles. However, storage can be expanded through the use of microSD cards. Games for the Switch will come on physical GameCards, which may help alleviate the console’s onboard storage space by offloading most of the storage requirements for each game to the individual GameCards.

Some kind of underwhelming specs, not gonna lie.

Both Nvidia and Nintendo are staying mum on the SOC which is a major letdown and hints at what kind of a failure the SOC was.

So it's possibly $299 for 32GB, from what you'll be able to use, what, 27GB? It's like you're buying a phone, not a console.

@AluminiumTech. Arm supports Sata3 speeds even for SD cards,  arm even goes up to NVMe speeds (apple has NVMe storage in iPhone)

I meant generic ARM CPUs. Custom Chips can obviously add that functionality but my understanding is that Nvidia uses off the shelf designed cores and they have no SATA support.

I'll be treating the Switch as a portable console only, so these specs don't really bother me... except for the battery. "2.5 to 6 hours" is too vague. This is what will determine if I'll get the Switch this year or not.

CPU: Intel i5 3550           | Cooler: Corsair A50          | Motherboard: Asus P8Z77      | Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB |

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB   | GPU: GTX 1650                | Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black)  | PSU: EVGA 650W G2            |

I think this is kind of what they meant.....

2.5 hours of battery for games like Skyrim OR up to 6 hours for games like Mario Kart etc.

No :D. Lol, if they did release a model like that then it'd cost $399 or $449.

Is there anything surprising here? It's basically a tablet. It'll be capable of 3D gaming, still far more powerful than the WiiU although obviously wont compares to the latest Sony/MS models.

I used to play it via MiFi. Think the problem isn't so much about implementing it in the Switch, as people then relying on getting another device connected and associated network costs.

It would have been really EPIC if they could have squeezed in an RX 460 for Notebooks. RIP TDP and Power consumption though....

That's why I said IF. And technically, a hotspot, given you had some with GPS would do the trick. Mind you a console with a SIM slot is not happening.

Physical would be the only thing that could save it yes, but when I remember carrying 10 cartridges back in the day for PSP and Game Boy... I'd rather take digital for portable. Mind you having like 3 SD cards with games is neat, but the costs can add up pretty fast.

The only thing I don't get is why people are hyped about Skyrim on the Switch...It's a 6 year old game at this point, and even if you haven't played it, you can get a better experience of it elsewhere. Also, it's definitely not the type of game you'd want to play on the go.

to be honest.. i dont understand why people care about the performance of the hardware in nintendo's stuff so much.

in the end, all that freaking matters is that the game's fun to play, and that it doesnt chug.

If I were going to buy that (let's be honest here. I'm not going to, no matter what happens), Nintendo would need to make sure ALL games run at 60fps or above AT ALL TIMES.
