Recommended Underclock for a 970 if all I play is CS:GO pretty much

I recently upgraded from a really shitty Radeon HD 5970 where I got 40 fps on the lowest settings in csgo to a 970 which gets 100+ on max settings.

 

I even bought a 600w PSU (from a 400w PSU) in hopes of over clocking (although I actually bought it so I could connect a PCI-E 8 that I was missing). 

 

But when I was running csgo my fans went beserk. My cooling in my computer is pretty shit, in fact the case is trapped between a wooden drawer with not a lot of room for heat to escape, and a desk with holes in the sides (but the computer's only grill is on the other side (and its about 15*3cm anyways).

 

My monitors only go up to 1920*1080 (60hz) or 1280*1024 (75hz).

 

So whats the most I could underclock my 970 to prevent high temps and keep the fan quiet while consistently getting a minimum of 60 fps?

Only if you lower the voltage. I would make a cut-out for the drawer and add an A/C vent to direct the air out.

You can get cooler temps, say CS:GO uses 20% at 1400Mhz, could it use 80% at 800Mhz while also running cooler.

That said, its pointless to underclock unless you like causing hardship for yourself

 

 

Check your temps, best thing you can do here is cut out some holes in both your case, and the desk if possible.

Just lower the Power limits to their lowest.

It won't boost high and may even sit at a lower clock profile (also lower voltage) for the most of the time.

Without needing "OC profiles" set, just lower the power the card can get, and it will be cooler and quieter.

If you lower the Temp limit, your fans will spin faster/louder, so raising that if not at max, can help too.

Just lower the fan speed and let the card bake. Plenty do it.

Set a frame limiter, or use V-Sync. When the framerate cap is reached, a card will clock itself down.
