No, probably not actually There's a strong chance I will buy it reguardless, but I will wait for all the reviewers to show off their finds and wait anywhere up to a few weeks to try and evade initial launch demand same as with my RX 460 which I probably should have waited a bit longer to buy as well, but overall I'm pleased with it as well.

well if i am I would still wait for independant reviews before making my decision.

my i7 3770k is ok, but my mobo just died. So now I have to decide whether to order a new socket 1155 mobo (very few choices left), or say goodbye to my 3770k by switching platforms to ryzen which will be probably faster but I need to buy a CPU and DDD4 RAM.... Which seems a bit wasteful considering what a 3770k is capable of.

I'd buy a used Z77 board and bench test it.  Lots of perfectly good stuff gets sold every day by people upgrading.

My comment re: OP.  "launching".  How many months/years did it take for their 400 series to come in decent inventory?

Is anyone here going to for sure buy into this platform right off the bat? I'd like to know if you're able to easily overclock these things right out of the box like you would with your typical Intel K CPU - mainly just to know whether or not AMD is going to clock these as high as they can and leave no room for overclocking even higher.

I'd also like to know if it performs as well as yer typical Intel i5 or i7 :)

If I have the money, I'll be buying a top end octacore, and the hexacore. I'll compare the hex to my 5930k

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Count me in. Will wait for a few months for the price gauging to stop, then probably build something with a 6c/12t Ryzen CPU and (if it's released by that time) an RX475. Lots of free weeks during summer break, so I will build it during that time.

Ye ole' train

Gah. Going to be hard to resist building a new Ryzen system...

Just gotta keep telling myself, "Your 4770k is fine, your 4770k is fine, your 4770k is fine..."

As much as I want AMD to compete with Intel, I still want to see independent benchmarks of the CPUs

As an owner of a 4.8ghz 6700k and a 4.9ghz 4790K, i'll be waiting until Zen+/ Cannon Lake at least to upgrade.  But I'm really rooting for you AMD.

no?

What you are waiting for is ZEN+ or Ryzen2.0 or whatever it will be called.... ZEN isn't going to change much in desktop, it will shake up mobile in ways i cannot imagine when their APUs (using VEGA based iGPUs apparently) hit the market around summer.

No I am waiting for Zen.

I don't have time to wait for Zen+. I want a computer now.

I know you don't think Zen will be good, and quite frankly neither do I (been let down too many times to get my hopes up), but let's wait for reviews before we call it good/bad.

It won't shake it up in terms of performance but it might shake it up a little bit in terms of perf/$ which is quite nice. If we can start getting 6c 12t processors for $300 and 3c 8t ones for $200-250 that would still be a decent change with everything moving down a tier in terms of price.

8c/16t isnt going to be below 500$. I can think of zero reasons why AMD would launch it at anything lower. Heck, even sub 750$ doesnt really make sense if the product sits around Haswell perf.

I dunno what you and everybody else is smoking. But you are bat-shit crazy if you think you are going to get a 8c/16t product at those prices. Advanced Micro Devices is a corporation, not a fucking charity. It's these kinds of expectations is what is truly sinking ZEN, not the performance.

Na I don't believe that 8c/16t is gonna be below $500. I'm not one of those believers. I don't think it will be $1000 either. ~$700-800 makes sense to me.

I don't think AMD will price Ryzen at the same prices as Intel though especially since the 8c and 6c parts have less pcie lanes than Intel offerings. though I don't expect the parts to be much more than 25% cheaper than equivalent Intel CPUs.

Where did this belief of Zen 8c/16t being $500 or less appear. It smells of the silliness of Polaris 1600MHz+ on air. I thought people in that court would learn by now.

My guess, Yes a pure guess not backed by anything other than my own thoughts...

Zen will be within 10% of the Intel variant in terms of pricing.

Performance? I will wait for benchmarks before making a solid comment.

*raises hand* another one here. I haven't decided on which CPU and mobo combo, and wont until we know exactly what they're selling, for how much, and what's available. I don't want to throw big $$$ at the early ones but still need to test it in ways no mainstream reviewer ever will.

Eh I disagree. I definitely wouldn't have been willing to wait over a year to see a processor we didn't even know the price of that at most would save $100.

As long as it come out H1, I am happy.

I think the 8c 16t will have a price that is 500-600 $
