Is portability very important for you?

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

To some extent, the school is a hour and a half drive away from home but not enough for it to have a massive impact on my choice

In that case a desktop would probably be your best bet.

Though you might want to look into a case like the Fractal Design Node 202 since it is pretty small and portable so that when you take the drive home it's easier to carry around and stuff.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?
