Microsoft shows off their own solution for Cars featuring Cortana

Microsoft is brining a new Car Platform involving Cortana to Cars! BMW has showcased this solution in their own cars.

The system being presented at CES 2017 is the in-car application of Microsoft's Cortana. This means that the voice-controlled capabilities already offered by Microsoft Cortana on a home PC could or smartphone in future also be available on board a BMW. For example, BMW Connected can provide a reminder en-route of an upcoming appointment for which no location has yet been fixed. And Cortana can be used to make a suitable restaurant recommendation and reserve a table.

 

Thoughts and Opinion:

Cool. This will go along nicely with Cortana on all my other devices (for you android and IOS loyalists, they've ported Cortana fyi).

 

Although, I don't see why Microsoft couldn't have just simplified this solution and made it standard instead of making it rely on the Car Manufacturer.

Afaik, Cortana in the car has no control over any function of driving or any utilities except maybe turning on or off air con.

All this does is provide a Personal Assistant into a car. The only data it collects comes from what you willing give it and recording(s) of your voice when you activate Cortana.

yea i would imagine that, would be pretty bad if cortana had control over system critical functions such as locks and the engine. or control over anything beyond climate control functionality

I'm not into cars, literally don't even know anything about them, but all the latest tech companies are making for them looks interesting. Specially accident prediction/prevention and other "quality of life" improvements that can be useful.
