Every phone looks the same nowadays. Pixel looks like an iPhone, iPhone looks like a Galaxy, that one Asus phone with two cameras looks like an iPhone 7+, etc etc.

You're telling me sub 3 year old flagships should become obsolete in the sense that they'll not get anymore software (OS) updates?

That's like saying Broadwell should not be supported in the newest windows 10 releases...

Not really. They're two entirely different markets. A huge percentage of people upgrade their phone on 2 year cycles. CPUs last a lot longer before they're considered outdated.

It's largely speculated that it's due to storage encryption. I'm all for it if it means more secure phones. Google added it to their CDD, and the older devices simply couldn't comply.

Also, yes, 3 year old phones are considered EOL by most manufacturers.

Not really. People only get new phones because at the end of a contract they figure they may as well get something new.

I've seen people still using iPhone 5 (released in 2012) in 2017. I've seen some people using iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S.

I beg to differ. Most people I see, on the way to and from school, use old android phones which are not newer than 2 years old. They don't have even close to the latest android updates.

This is caused by customer purchasing habits. If people bought new CPUs every 2 years, I bet you that Ivy Bridge and below would be not supported on any OS.

The only people who have the newer phones are the younger generation which choose to spend some money on phones.

Also, you know the Lumia 1520? that phone is 3 years old and is still being supported to this day. It was a flagship 3 years ago.

Not by Microsoft and not by any GOOD or DECENT company.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

The iPhone 5 launched in 2012 and is still receiving updates. Was also a flagship device.

To be fair, Sony tried to bring Android N/7.0  to S801 where they were even beta testing Android N on Z3 and Z3C devices...

I read it was something to do with the Adreno 330 not supporting DX12 and vulkan :/

Which is why sometimes having a locked ecosystem is good, it ensures the longest support on a device possible...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...
