How much difference does RAID 0 actually make for hard drives?

Cs342

Will I notice any improvement using RAID 0 on my mechanical disks? I will be using my SSD fo most programs and my HDDs for some games as well as music and videos.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Basically your asking is its worth raiding your extra mechanical storage as your core stuff in on SSD, Well if its just games music and videos, you don't get a massive boost in performance...

I used to run 4 X 7200rpm 250Gb in raid 0 for my mechanical supplemental storage, now just run a 7200rpm 2Gb drive and to be honest, games don't load as fast but its not really noticeable and videos take about 0.5 sec longer to start.

It wont scale as well as SSD RAID 0 as your still limited to the access time with random reads, sequential reads and writes on the other hand will be faster.

so moving large files will be quicker, but loading multiple small files (OS or game) wont be.

If you want to improve random rates then go with a SSD as they have a much much faster access time.

in the 4k random read write's i didnt see anny boost but in large file transfers i went to 200mbps give or take on sequentials with 3x WD black 1TB
