HP at CES 2017

jasonwj322a

Spectre x360 is getting a refresh and is going to be on preorder starting today. The surprising release for me is the Sprout Pro. Not surprising like I didn't know, just surprising that they are refteshing it after having it did so badly. Though it has been quite some time now.

What do you guys think? I personally am waiting for the Spectre.

what is that long slot in the laptop?  Too small for a CD but way too big for and SD... plus there seems to be an SD reader beside it anyway

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Spectre is meh. I think that design for laptops is kind of stupid.

The Sprout would be an interesting tool for schools.

That long slot is call Secure Digital Smart Card. It's card reader that reads special ID cards issued to those who are authorized and can have access to a computer. They are mostly used in the enterprise or military. The only laptops that will have it are business laptops.

Because 99.99% don't buy business laptops, so they won't know these features exist.

the company is shit. I know many people who work there and they hate it. They killed the pension, and keep spliting it to save costs.

I just don't like the whole fold-me-over design. I'd never use it like that, and there's compromises in design to make it function that way. Totally personal opinion though :)

Apparently the keyboard is spill proof and there's a drain for the liquids to escape.

Haha, long shot I know. It's more likely related to the pen (magnet?) or the 4g connectivity.

Smart cards are fairly popular. They're used by a lot of businesses and even the government to login to computers, or have "key card" access to doors. I have a combo key card (mag swipe) +  smart card (chip)  ID. I swipe to open doors and access parking structures, and other restricted area off limits to the public and insert the keycard portion to use certain devices. It has our photo IDs on them and other information.

Here's an example: img-card-topology-front.pngimg-card-topology-back.png

I'm not  going to post mine for obvious reasons.  ;)
