Are you limited in functionality pairing a Samsung Smartwatch with a non-Samsung phone?

LaboonTheWhale

The Samsung Gear S3 looks like a great Smartwatch but I hear that Samsung nerfs what you can do without a Samsung phone on that watch.

What would you lose out on?

I thought it just wouldn't pair with anything that wasn't a Samsung galaxy phone. I think they are pretty useless without a compatible phone

gear s2 had a list of compatible Android phone.

Samsung's page on the Gear s3 says

Quote

Sync the Gear S3 with your compatible Galaxy phone, or another Android phone, and stay connected via Bluetooth or 4G LTE.7

not very detailed on what is considered "limited"

9 Call experience may vary depending on manufacturer.

Does that just mean how strong your phones Bluetooth is?

10Some Android phones limited on text reply, call back from text, and read notification check from phone.

How is one phone more limited than others in texting?

11 No email sync capability for non-Samsung phones.

I guess this one makes sense?

12 Wi-Fi profile sharing from your phone automatically to your watch may not be possible with your Android Phone.

Not quite sure about this one

It's not officaly supported at the moment the only way to get it is to force a app on it.Not sure about features but I think they will be barebones.http://www.tizenexperts.com/2016/12/gear-s3-s2-working-on-oneplus-3-3t-non-galaxy-devices/

Also are you considering to buy a gear s3 or you already have one

moto 360 vs moto 360 2nd gen. Is there a reason why theres such a huge price discrepancy between the two? Is it THAT much better? (Comparing off Amazon)
