best used graphics card for modern gaming?

So I am building a gaming pc and I'm leaning towards getting a rx 460 or a gtx 1050

But someone in my older thread mentioned a r9 290 to me (my psu won't be able to take that power hungry card)but the card averaged about 70-100$ on eBay and it matched performance of a gtx 970,which surprised me.

So my question to you is,are there any good used cards at a great value for modern gaming? Preferably I'm looking for a card that  can handle modern games on low-medium settings at 1080p.

(I have a seasonic 430 watt GB psu and a i3 6100,for refrence)

if you want the best for modern gaming that will last you a while a GTX 1060 is great about the same performance as a GTX 980, but if you dont bat for the green team a RX 480/470 are great choices.

ive been seeing gtx 480s hovering around the market that go for 40-50 dollars or so. they are a bit faster then a 750ti. only prob is they only come with 1.5 gigs of vram and need and 8 pin and a 6 pin pci connector so you would have to check your power supply before hand.

What ever is cheapest, I guess.

Yea if you can power a 780ti its a really good choice it performs about the same as a 980 at a cheaper price

I'd go with a 780 or 970 if you can, but a 960 is a good bet.

Also 750 ti's are going for 50-100$ on eBay

I think I'm going to stick with now,i think the only other card I would consider is the 750 ti ,all the other cards are too power hungry for my liking or just not a worth while price in my opinion.

Thanks for the input though I'll start considering the used market now :)
